Many clever and fun ideas.
I have done metal work for jewelry for many years as well as some colored glass work, however, I never thought about combining the two techniques. This book has introduced me to just that.Since beginning it I have had a good of ideas on using all of the bits and pieces of leftover glass, wire, chain, seashells, and many other things that I have saved in hopes of finding a good use for them, and now I think I've found just the techniques. I have been having lots of fun using leaded glass processes on all these odds and ends to make some beautiful pieces and many fun items.Hopefully, I will get some time to photograph a few of these items and add them to this review.I definitely recommend this book to anyone like me, who has saved small items thinking a use would come up for them, as now it has. Hobby stores carry many small decorative items that could be incorporated into this type of jewelry.I hope many people give this a chance because I think it is fun and rewarding.

Great book on soldering
I’ve always been scared to try soldering, I was afraid I’d burn the house down. I’ve tried so many other books, videos and even a class but even with a fire extinguisher right beside me I just couldn’t get the courage to do anything other than the most basic soldering. After reading and then going back and following the instructions in this book I am finally getting over my fear and beginning to be able to make jewelry that has to be soldiered!! Thank you so much Barbara for helping me get over my fear and be able to expand my skills!!!

Not. For serious artists
If you just want to play at making jewelry, ok, but otherwise get a serious book. You need to learn in depth about all necessary and available safety equipment and tools then what is available for general use in your chosen field,. That only scratches the surface and a history of the art to date would be nice too. Don't bother because there are better books for only a couple dollars more.

Great for beginners
Book was very informative. I've been making beaded and wire wrap jewelry for years and I have a good collection of "stuff" that I never quite had any idea what I wanted to use it for. This book gives you the basics without having to go out and purchase a lot of expensive items. The only thing that I had to buy was the copper foil tape. They had it at Michael's it was not expensive. I had already been trying my hand with little solder projects like jump rings on jewelry so they wouldn't come apart. That is why I had the rest of the basic material needed for these projects.

Great ideas and I can practice with these.
I would have given it 5 stars if there were more varied materials used in the projects and/or a chart showing potential materials commonly used with a chart showing if it will handle shattering. I'm excited to try this out using my shattering iron i to use for electric repairs on my trawler. It has low and high heat and the only difference is it has a more stable and safe holding stand.

Another great book!!!
Once again Barbaraaa Tilley has put together a great book! She has only a few projects but each one has great pictures and concise instructions. This time she has taken the fear of the torch out of soldering. Add to that a very "crafty" approach to the bezel and this book one to check out!!
