Jet Set

Los Straitjackets are probably the best of the surf revival bands. While much of surf rock has been about speed and technique, Los Straitjackets have always been about the melody and the music, not the musicians.Jet Set brings the return of guitarist Daddy-O Grande (aka Danny Amis), recovered from recent health issues, now joined with Eddie Angel, making for a pretty fierce guitar pair.On first listen, I think Jet Set will be up there with Utterly Fantastic and Further Adventures as among their best albums. In a way, this is less surf-y than some of their earlier works. It's more like an instrumental version that have the feel of the female vocals of the early 60s (Petula Clark, Melanie, Dionne Warwick, Dusty Springfield).Crime Scene has a film-noir feel to it, while the cleverly titled Pop Rocks and Coke has the jumpy feel you'd expect from a song with that name. The best compliment I can give to an instrumental album is when I can almost hear vocals where there are none. The songs on Jet Set transport you to another time and place and tell you a story.

They don't come much hipper than Los Straitjackets- these guys are the absolute kings of surf and 60's influenced instrumental music. "Jet Set" is a superb new collection- consistently creative and groovy tracks that are just a plain joy to listen to.Favorites include Sardinian Holiday, Yeah yeah Yeah, Low Tide, New Siberia, and Aerostar but they are all worthy of inclusion- a highly melodic and toe tappin good time for all.Highly recommended!

A return to form after a slight dip in quality on the previous record. If you like their earlier records you will likely enjoy this. These guys are the best instrumental band currently releasing albums. If you dig surf, their albums are essential.

For people who want some surf rock but want it polished and with great instrumental hooks this is for you. They do stray a bit for the simple surf formulas and give a lot more. The songs with the horn section are very dynamic. Great variety from the soft tones of fun Sofia to the speed picking on New Siberia these are some great tunes the only one that is not a jem to me is Mr. Pink.

To call this album "surf music" is selling it short, it is that and so much more. Jet Set ventures into awesome varied instrumentation with horns adding to the mix on a couple songs as well as forrays into classic funk and even ska stylings. A joy to listen to and still holds up after many many listens. I can not recommend this LP enough.

These guys are great to begin with, and this newest release is just stellar. They seal their spot as America's Top Instrumental Band. "Wrong Way Inn" may be my new favorite song for a while, but every song is amazing. What's more amazing, but not surprising to LSJ fans already, is the different images and emotions each song can evoke; without a single lyric.

Great band, great music! Bought it for the songs "Jet Set" and "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah". but the rest of the disc is a lot of fun.Highly recommended!

Fifteen fantastic tracks of instrumental genius. A band that Jim Heath of Reverend Horton Heat refers to as the greatest guitar band in the world.If you don't own a Los Straitjacket album this would be an ideal place to start. From the opening track "Crime Scene" to the last "Fur Sophia" these boys will whisk you around the world. They delve into so many different musical styles too numerous to mention but also somehow maintaining that surf sound and beat.My favourites change with every listening at the moment I love twisting with a bit of Cossack dancing to "New Siberia". I also love "Low Tide" with amazing saw playing by Irina Bjorklund who also adds a little vocal to the brilliant euro cheese slice "Sardinia Holiday". The playing is fantastic all throughout this album. If in doubt check out the video for "Space Mosquito" on youtube.All in all this is a very uplifting and entertaining album.

Possible one of the greatest current instrumental bands - every track on Jet Set is different and most enjoyable. So glad I got it.

Una banda de rock y surf instrumental con mayúsculas. La mejor banda del género de la actualidad, no en vano, su guitarrista, Eddie Angel, es un espectáculo. Último disco de estudio hasta la fecha y totalmente recomendable al igual que en directo.

ルチャリブレ、プロレスマスクを着用した覆面インストロックンロール、サーフロックバンド、Los Straitjacketsのスタジオフルアルバムとしては13作目かな。個人的にはこいつらは上手すぎて、それを通り越してキュート。スタイルは違えどNRBQのように、愛してやまないバンドだ。本作もクラシックLos Straitjaketsとも言えそうな、オンリーワンのロックンロールをきかせる。どことなく、今までよりムーディでダンディなのが、かるく笑ってしまう。聴いているとなぜかいつまでも追いかけてしまうギターのフレーズに、めちゃくちゃ上手くて味のあるドラム、安定したベースによって、何度も何度もリピートしてしまうようなロックンロールを作り上げる。使わなくてもいいのにミュージカルソーを取り入れたり、キーボードやホーンをアクセントに、抜群の音を響かせる。ツアーメンバーのGregがいつのまにか５人目のメンバーに加わっているのかな？とにかくサイコー！

２００９年リリースの前作も好きですが、これはさらに音も良く最新作ながらメロディはどこか懐かしさを感じさせる６０年代風ギターインストアルバムになっています。彼らのアルバムいつも何度も聴きたくなる曲があるのですが、このアルバムは全体的にクセになるメロディの曲ばかりです。完全に中毒になりますのでご注意を。。。帰宅すると必ず聴いちゃってます＾＾；もう癒しですわ。

カッコイイ楽曲、楽しい楽曲、癒し系の楽曲と相変わらずのノリの良さで名盤の１枚です。
