I know sex sells, but I would like a little more story than brief interludes between sexual encounters. I love the characters but they are beginning to seem like replicas of each other.

I loved Lachlan
Another hit by D.B. Reynolds. The war is coming, alliances are being made, only the strong will survive. Lachlan wants to be the Lord of Scotland. He has waited many years for revenge against Erskine, the present Lord. Lachlan. knows he can be the Lord who can rule fairly. When he meets Julia Harper, a CIA agent, who has her own agenda, sparks fly in more ways than one. Erskine killed her friend, Masoud. but he left files and information for Julia so she could follow the trail. She and Lachlan team up to bring Erskine down for good. There are secrets and and lies that will be discovered which will affect Raphael, the most powerful Vampire Lord in the world. No one wants to be his enemy. Strong hero, feisty heroine, steamy sex. I read it in one sitting, couldn't put it down. Can't wait for the rest of the series. One of my favorite Lords of of the series. 5+ stars. If you love handome, strong vampires and the women who stand beside them, you will love this series. I received this book from Net Galley and Belle Books/ImaJinn for a honest review. I was honored to be able to read this book.

Why?
Overall plot moved fast and that was a saving grace. There were to many missed opportunities for me to rank this higher. Because there was to much "jumping around" there was no real mental engagement. That resulted in me finding inconsistencies that any proof reader should have caught...such as a flight from UK to CA that left at 10pm to arrive at 2 am is a east to west flight that would have zero sunrise, so why was Lachlan forced to sleep? And for return flight, that would have been daylight no matter what, which wasn't mentioned at all during the setup for sex scene. The lack of emotional that I'm used of and how everyone is giving "lip service" to Raphael is almost stupid now. Why would he demand seeing them and why demand to see him if they don't really care about his or his people opinions because they have their own people and plans. This is 3rd story with same plot and same rushed intimacy that doesn't really work as a long-term couple beyond this story.I really wanted to live this one, but I haven't really liked any of these since shifter planet and know that Ms Reynolds can make more emotional connected H/h then she has with these books. I need buy-in on the H/h not just sex to say "see they love each other now, they had 6 pages of sex".

Lachlan is outstanding!
I fell in love with Scotland through books as a child in the 1970s and I finally got to visit in 2006 & 2014. I would move there in a heartbeat. I believe the author has that same type of love for Scotland as evidenced in this novel of clan rivalries, red hot vengeance served cold and a smoking hot Scottish Vampire Lord with a quirky sense of humor & a slight fetish for sex in the shower. The only think missing was Lachlan in a kilt, dam it!

10 Stars if I could...worth every $$$$
This was a EXCELLENT read. I still can't believe how much better this series is getting from Book 1 to Book 13, it is still outstanding. D.B. continues to capture the reader with exciting plots, love scenes, AWESOME and STRONG female lead characters and the perfect amount of action. I don't know where D.B will go with Book 14 but I can't wait to read what is next. I would love some short stories or vignettes of the other character she has used to capture our attention. This book is a great and fast read (too fast), I was so sad when it was over, and now I wait on pins and needles until the next ViA release. Thank you D.B. for continuing to write such excellent stories. EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT!!!!

4.5 stars for series stamina!
Another little corner of the (close to) European continent all squared away, by and for one of the good guys. My apologies to all with that apparent insult to both the European continent and the UK, but geography notwithstanding there is still lots ahead as the other side of the pond either allies with *someone* or perishes in the reshuffling ahead. In this volume though, I really enjoyed Lachlan and Julia. Their relationship evolved without angst, thankfully, and all the while the vampire culture and its political intrigue remain front and centre; an equal player in the overarching story, with historical glimpses filling in the blanks.Bravo.But hark, what moron from the continent thinks himself equal to Raphael??....

Another exceptional book of characters
I'll just start off by saying Lachlan and his cousins have immeasurable patience. They have waited a long time for vengeance. Lachlan is loyal, brave and down right sexy. Julia is in need of revenge too. She kind of acts unsure of her ability to mete out retribution but when times get tough she defends everyone. Reynolds added a couple of twists too. One of my all time favorite series.

A Enjoyable Read
Lachlan McRae woke on his first night as a vampire to seeing almost all his clan – human, vampires, women and children slaughtered, he and his two men having served only because their chamber had not been discovered. Lachlan has spent 150 years building his clan back up and gaining power in order to kill the cowardly Vampire Lord of Scotland - Erskine Ross. He finds an unexpected ally in human Julia Harper, who has her own reasons to wish Erskine dead. What neither expect is Erskine’s unrelenting attempts to capture Julia.I enjoyed seeing Vampire Lord Raphael and his mate kickass Cyn again, despite their time in this book being short. This was an entertaining read. I enjoyed the main characters and their interactions. I particularly liked the fact Julia was no damsel in distress. I will say this the plot is very similar to what has come before, so to truly enjoy the read, start this book when memories of the books that came prior to it are difficult to conjure.Another very enjoyable read in the series, whilst some events from previous books are mentioned here, and characters from the early books pop up this can be read comfortably as a standalone. An addition to my kindle that won’t be forgotten or deleted.99p on Amazon 4th August 2019.
