Lovely book for those with some experience.
Having honed some skills I wanted to move on and I have always enjoyed the Jacobeam style of crewel work so I thought I would try this book. There are some beautiful design in this book but I would say this is not a book for those new to crewelwork, you need to go back and forth from stitch to picture and you would need to understand what you are looking at and how to undertake the stitch for it to be successful. It is there for inspiration rather than instruction, but what inspiration, patterns and colours , a beautiful book.

Excellent
Very clear instructions. I have worked 'Just Jacobean' and it has turned out much better than I expected. This was my first attempt at crewel work, although I have done other forms of embroidery.

Crewel Twists Review
Embroidering in the Jacobean fashion is what I enjoy most. Prior to purchasing this book, I have attended classes and watched a DVD of the technique and completed my first project. I bought this book as I thought it would provide me with easy visual access to the techniques. I feel this is not a starter book for the complete novice, as there is a need to go back and forth between stitch instruction and the photographic image. While it is easy for the experienced stitcher to know what they are looking at stitch wise on the design, I feel the novice may have a little more difficulity. This book tells one what to do, but does not show you how to do it. Having said that, the graphics are excellent making it easy to see the stitch direction while sewing. The colour photos provide ample opportunity to go with the suggested colour schemes or to change them to ones own colour blend. This is a lovely book for the embroiderer to use as inspiration in their own work.

Crammed with info
Love this book! Beautifully written and set out. I have done a lot of embroidery although I am new to crewel work, but found the patterns easy to follow. Love the stitch guides.

What a gem!
I love this book. What a gem! I received it last week and have already completed a cut-down version of "Midnight Meander" featured on the front cover - using my own colour scheme. I was very pleased with what I achieved. The instructions clearly detail each stage, containing a useful stitch glossary including needle-lace techniques, and clear photos, that guide you step by step, to completion. I enjoyed it so much that I have since ordered the beads and threads for the Autumn Lace project and can't wait for them to arrive! I am so delighted to have found a book that combines several techniques, and that use well-known brands of stranded cotton. Hazel, you have achieved your goal . . . I am well and truly inspired!

Crewel twists
I like this book and the designs are very colourful, I will be using this book many times, I am a novice embroiderer but am sure I will be able to manage some of the designs here if not yet I will persevere, shows how the stitches are formed clearly.

This isn't just ideas: It is how to create them.
I love Helen's vibrant colour useage and this book really helps to show how she acheives the patterns. The stitches are shown in easy to understand detail. If you like Jacobean design and want a book to inspire you to be creative then this is it.

INSPIRATIONAL!!
It was the black and white cover that first draw my attention - it was so different from all the colours. Book was cheap enough so I thought I would order it and see!!The book took my breath away - the samples shown throughout the book are quite beautiful and I must admit I cannot wait to give a couple a go. Instructions are clear with stitch diagrams at the beginning of the book. The author writes as if she is talking to you - even advice on glasses etc.A lovely book worth every penny.

Gostei muito.
Gostei do livro.

Beautiful!
I got it as a gift for a friend who is into embroidery. It's super high quality, amazing print, has detailed samples on the inside. My only regret is that I had to gift the book and not keep it for myself!

Not traditional crewelwork
I found this book gave those who love crewel work, a totally different approach. One that you could make your own. There are designs, some in just one colour, others in metal threads and also those that incorporate different threads. Hazel Blankamp has pushed the boarders of crewel work and presented a totally new approach. Lots of excellent instructions on how to do the designs.
