Breaking New Garden Ground ... Indoors!
Pick a gardener, any gardener and place her in front of a new garden space and within days, or even hours she will be ready with trowel in hand and a garden cart overflowing with plants. Take that same garden wonder woman and ask her to garden in her own home and its like asking her to garden on the moon. For some reason, at least for this gardener, knowing which plants to pick and how to pot them and have it all tie into the decor of the room is a bit daunting. So much so that flashbacks to our early years of gardening and learning the difference between a dibber and a trug are brought to the surface. Why is it that gardening with style within the four walls of our own home can be such a challenge? Fear not my gardening friends, Kylee Baumle and Jenny Peterson are gifting to us their plant know-how, creative insights and practical advice within the pages of their new book; indoor Plant Decor; The Design Stylebook for Houseplants. (St. Lynn's Press)Kylee and Jenny walk us through eight decor styles from classic elegance to haberdashery. For each style we are taught its signature points, insightful ideas for plant containers and of course, which plants shine and embody the feel of the style. But this is more than a how-to book full of do this and that instructions; this book reads like an afternoon with garden friends. Jenny and Kylee chat with us, as if they are sitting with us, in our family room telling us, you go this! as we look about the room and wonder, what is my garden decor style?indoor Plant Decor is a beautiful book, full of lovely photos, excellent plant lists for each decor, a generous final plant list with plants categorized by how easy they are to grow and resource guides for plants and containers. Whether you have been growing plants for years or setting out to make your first purchase, this book will inspire and delight you! This is the first book for this garden duo and I have a feeling it will not be there last!

Excellent Design Stylebook!
Reading this book is like having afternoon coffee in the garden with the authors. The conversational tone establishes a personal connection designed to appeal to a variety of indoor gardeners. From Classic Elegance to Peaceful Zen to Cheap Chic (my personal favorite) and more, plants are suggested and their maintenance described for a wide variety of home settings. It has me searching from attic to cellar to backyard to garden shed, looking for glass jars, old ceramic jugs and bowls, pieces of used wood, and even old books to use as indoor planters! Beautifully photographed step by step instructions make this an easy handbook for novice gardeners. Buy one for the coffee table to share with friends, and one to keep with you while searching for new plants and planters. It will quickly become dog-eared from use!

Give me more!
It's a short book but it is well written and illustrated with pictures. It would get 5 stars if it was longer.

This book is full of good ideas plus would make a great gift !
I'm already a fan of Kylee Baumle's writing from her blog "Our Little Acre" plus her outstanding photos and articles in Indiana Gardener magazine. So I was anxious to check out her new book !This is truly a beautiful book from front to back. It's packed full of great ideas illustrated with wonderful photos on nearly every page.Really enjoyed the use of old musical instruments with plants on page 58.There's also an excellent reference guide in the back of the book to help people make good purchase choices.I think this would make a perfect book to give as a gift for any special occasion.

I HATE TO BE THE ONLY 3 STAR,but
if you have never had plants before and do not know much about decorating, then this is a nice little (7" x 71/2") introduction with good decor photos. However for those familiar with plants, this offers little that is new. I even found some of the ideas irritating.Like the author plants in an interesting , wooden card catalog type cabinet ,but water and wood do not mix well, eventually those drawers would be ruined. Also she refers to "grandma" plants- really? How can a plant be dated??? A silly idea really. A lot of succulents are used which are easy to care for, so a good plants for beginners.Besides they are fashionable in 2015! Lol! And she does use a lot of interesting containers but many would be destroyed by water, discoloration, cracks, etc. Fungus knats, also, are HARD to get rid of, even if you do not over water. I once had to destroy all of my plants to eliminate them. Any pest can be a great, big deal. Also, the one lovely green that i wanted to know about, was not talked about, though pictured often- moss. I have never had moss, and this book was no help. So to turn someone on to house plants , and to decorating, a nice starter book. But for the experienced, save your money.

Inspiring ideas
My houseplant collection is down to one lone cast iron plant, but this book is helping me realize houseplants can be integrated into indoor decor much more creatively than I tend to think. Throughout, the authors show ideas for combining plants both with objects and in unexpected containers (think teapots, shoes and shells). The arrangements presented are unusual and intriguing, but still doable, with plenty of project breakdowns and attractive photographs for inspiration. Breaking up the chapters by personal style such as Classic Elegance, Peaceful Zen and Modern Eclectic makes for an entertaining read. Recommended.
