Great portable USB hub and Ethernet adapter for Mac and PC!
This is a great portable USB hub and ethernet adapter! I have used this device with both an Apple MacBook Pro Retina and a Microsoft Surface Pro 3. The little green LED on top as there is no question as to whether the connection is working. Also, the Ethernet plug on the end has it's own LEDs for link and activity, which a plus! Just by looking you can tell if you have a dud connection. This saves time when working with potentially faulty wiring or a hub that is off.The overall construction of the hub is nice given the aluminum case, matching Apple products quite well. After a year of use, I have had no issues with operation. However, the base of the cable where it connects to the device has started to fray, which is concerning, since I don't bend the cable much. Some electrical tape has kept it together, but it is disappointing. Also, I usually have to use an external power source (USB Y cable) with external optical drives as there isn't enough power available on this hub, but that is typical of unpowered USB hubs and low power computers. That said, this is a great device that has served me well, and I would recommend it to Mac and PC users in need of an Ethernet adapter and a few extra USB 3.0 ports!

Wear and Tear on the cord but was refunded!!!
After about 4 months of using this in my bag, I noticed that the connection gets disconnected. It seems like the cord somehow is not well made and won't last you very long if you store it in tight places. Basically the cable is messed up now and unusable :(Edit: August 15, 2015I've changed my review from 1 star to four stars because of the ease of support and customer service. This product was fantastic when it worked fine. Sadly, the cord that connects to the unit is not able to bend and coil around the unit to store in small pockets or bag, which the reason why mine started to tear :(I purchased the HT-UE01 U model (black version), this one seems like the cord is well protected but a bit bigger than the aluminumm model.

Really speedy internet, right out of the box. USB 3.0 speeds excellent as well.
I recently purchased yet another laptop with a view toward weight and tablet functionality (Yoga Pro 2, Windows 8.1 64 bit, i-5 4210U @ 1.7 GHz, 2.40 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 250 GB SSD). I'm an IT support person with my own business and I had to take my other trusty laptop and install Windows 10 on it ... which meant I needed a new laptop for every day visits to clients. One of the things I end up doing from time to time is fixing networks, and I recently had to do exactly that in my own home. Several of the pieces of networking equipment I use require being directly connected via a wired connection to a computer (for configuring) before being put into use. It was at this point that I realized I had no Wired LAN port on my new laptop. Onward to Amazon, read a bunch of reviews, and ordered the HooToo.It arrived nicely packaged, no damage, no frustrating packaging either (just one piece of easily slit tape). Took it out of the box, plugged it into a USB 3.0 port, stuck in a Cat 5 cable, and voila - super speedy internet connection. No drivers needed for either internet or USB. I love things when they're that easy!.I then used two benchmarking programs to test the speed of data transfer to a USB 3.0 external hard drive - both with and without the HooToo hub. The average transfer rate was a whopping .2 MB/s (two TENTHS of a MB per second) higher without the hub. I can't imagine any circumstance where that's going to make a difference to me.The cable is about 15 inches long (by eye), and the device is light enough that it's not going to make any difference to the feel of my laptop case when I'm carrying it every day. There are status lights for the network connection and one power light for the device/USB ports. The design is slim, matte silver finish with white cord, and feels sturdy but light in the hand.If this thing holds up, it's definitely a 5 star purchase. If it doesn't hold up, I'll update my post, but hope that I won't need to.So far, it's a great purchase and does what it's supposed to.

High quality, lowest price amongst its peers, and plug and play on OS X 10.10.
UPDATE: The hub connector wore apart and made the hub useless after a few months. Warranty support was bad. I'd buy another brand.I’ve tried a number of USB 3 to Gigabit & USB 3 hubs, and I really haven’t found a perfect one until I tried this HooToo hub. Here’s why:1) It’s 100% plug and play on OS X Yosemite. No drivers, no delay— just incredibly fast connections out of the box. If you have never experienced how much faster and responsive most higher-tier internet lines are on a gigabit hardwire, you need to consider it. I work much more efficiently and the connection is always more reliable. And that’s compared to a Time Capsule 802.11ac router.2) All of the plugs are smooth to use, and the cable is of a thick and high quality plastic, but it isn’t too rigid (and therefore prone to breakage) like many Apple brand display adapters are. The extension cable is also a better (longer) length than most competitors, and I found that it struck the perfect balance between portability and ease-of-use.3) The build quality is excellent. The casing is aluminum, and it is gorgeous/matches perfectly with any Macbook, feels solid, and will undoubtedly outlast my laptop.4) It’s a good bit cheaper than most competitor adapters. This one’s a winner. I’d recommend it wholeheartedly.
