UGK Underground Kingz

I admit that i had never bought a UGK album before now (i know...sleepin). But i've been hearing about them for years on various tracks with Jay Z and others. A lot more recently of Bun B but that couldnt be helped. Anyways i had knowledge of them and decided that i would buy the cd. While there are a few songs that i'm not feeling most of the tracks on the cd were on point even when it seemed kind of repetitive. UGK would come back with another hot track and hot rhymes as well. I can't even front on this at all. I consider them Underground Kingz but they've already broken through to the big time. A number one debut on the Billboard Top 200 album chart. Its always great to see artists out there hustling and doing there thing for years despite the lack of backing by there label.But no more now UGK is up in this piece for real and they are as trill as they wanna be. I'm just mad that i havent bought anything by them in the past, but its cool. I know about them now and they are straight fire so those cats out there spitting a bunch of bull.... watch out cause UGK is here to set the rap game straight and the fakers as well. Underground Kingz is straight classic rap with some nice featured artists by UGK never get lost in any of that. But you don't need to even question. The album is hittin like a heavyweight boxing match and deserves a purchase from any folks looking for some no holds bar or punches pulled rap and just noteworthy music. Then buy Underground Kingz by UGK, you can't lose with this one at all.

Finally this long awaited album has been released, the first UGK collective since 2001's Dirty Money, and like that album, it was delayed for quite a while and pushed back. Dirty Money was hot, but I think this one may even be better, dare I say it. The whole 2 disc set features UGK stickin to the script lyrically, good rider anthems, fun pimpin joints(unlike the played out dry ones that plague the airways today), some good gangsta tracks, and some deeper tracks over high quality production (for the most part). The producers include, Pimp C on a big chunk, N.O. Joe, 3-6's Juicy J and DJ Paul, Scarface, Jazze Pha, Lil Jon, and a myriad of lesser knowns, and even though the album is in step with the times, for many of the songs have a mainstream crunk and bounce beats, others pay hommage to the old-school ways. There are some smooth funky joints that reminisce of the UGK of the 90's, many of which were produced by N.O. Joe, Pimp C and Scarface. There is more of a mainstream feel lyrically on many; guests include, Too Short, OutKast, Dizzee Rascal, Slim Thug and a few others. I will say, more mainstream or not, I love the vibe of this album. Too Short and UGK remake Short's Life Is...Too Short in "Life Is 2009," with a similar beat to the original, but with more twang and bounce. Marley Marl produces a funky beat with Big daddy Kane and Kool G Rap dropping some old school style rhymes on "Next Up." Juicy J and DJ Paul create a Crunk-soul atmosphere on the relaxed banger "Int'l Players Anthem (I Choose You)." UGK exclaim why they have the streets sowed on "The Game Belongs To Me" with a smooth Texas Swang N Bang beat. N.O. Joe creates a slow rollin and twangy beat on "Cocaine", and Pimp C discusses how he was maintaining until Cocaine entered his life; Bun B drops some knowledge and history about it, while Rick Ross hustles it. UGK and Willie D pump up the south and explain why it rules, and if you don't like it, tough; the South is on hit, and is here to stay. "Shattered Dreams" is another smooth joint by Pimp C with some deeper life philosophy, dropping serious knowledge. We have the obligatory funky fun rider anthems like "Candy," produced by Scarface, which are for the six-fo's. Some mediocre mainstream crunk joints like the Lil Jon produced "like That" and like "Hit The Block" with T.I. with a weaker Swizz Beatz beat are too mainstream for me. Even if they are not for you like it they are not for me, do not let joints like those deter you because the other joints are phat. Overall, the filler is not enough to overpower the good ones. This album is definitely a UGK album, and the beats and lyrics are vintage UGK, and remind you why THEY are the kings of Texas, the south, and the underground, and hopefully, they will rule the mainstream!!! Pimp C's and Bun B's flows aer in tact, and they never fell off in my opinion. I hope this album sells at least 5X platinum! This album is a fitting album and what the mainstream needs, some trillness! Let's hope we don't heve to wait until 2012 or 2013 for the next album. Maybe they will hook up with Rap-A-Lot, who won't screw them over, and release an album sooner with as much ambition and fire as this one.

R.I.P. Pimp C. This is the best album released by the duo. I can play this album from beginning to end without skipping one song. I sure miss the Pimp C's soundtracks.

This is one of those CDs your always going to go back to. So many classic songs and such fantastic production. This is definitely my favorite UGK album and they really made a product worth purchasing.

Best UGK album ever made

Very good CD representing Texas rap in the early 2000s, if you like that kind of music then this is good for you. Also R.I.P. Pimp C.

I bought this double disc cd for my fiance for christmas because he LOVES UGK and didn't have this particular cd in his collection. He was very happy to see it when he opened it up. We've listened to it 3 times and watched the dvd that came with it twice since christmas already....he loves his UGK!! (and I've become a bigger fan too).

Fünf lange Jahre hat es gedauert, bis endlich wieder ein UGK-Album erschien. Zwischendurch gab's den Knastaufenthalt von Pimp C und starke Solo-Platten der beiden Underground Kingz, weshalb die Erwartungen natürlich hoch lagen. Doch sie wurden ihnen mehr als gerecht. Zu meinem Erstaunen sind sie sich selbst Treu geblieben und setzten hauptsächlich auf chillige Songs mit vielen Funk-Elementen, aber auch ein paar Songs im Dirty South-Style sind natürlich mit von der Partie. Es wurde ein großes Producer-Lineup verpflichtet unter dem sich illustre Leute wie Scarface, DJ Paul & Juicy J, Jazze Pha, Lil Jon, Marley Marl und einige mehr befinden, aber auch Pimp C legte Hand an. Die erste Single "Int'l Players Anthem" feat. OutKast dürfte vielen ein Begriff sein. Das Instrumental stammt von DJ Paul und Juicy J, ist jedoch komplett anders als ihre sonstigen Produktionen. Normalerweise ist man von 3-6 ja düstere Melodien gewohnt, dieser Song jedoch ist eher chillig, was hervorragend zu UGK passt, auch Big Boi rappt gut, lediglich André3000 stört, da er seinen Part redet anstatt zu rappen. Von "Int'l Players Anthem" gibt's auf der zweiten CD noch zwei weitere Versionen. Auf der einen wurde OutKast durch die Three 6 Mafia ersetzt und mir daher besser gefällt, die zweite ist Chopped & Screwed. "Life Is 2009" mit Too Short ist ein von Scarface produziertes Funk-Feuerwerk sonders Gleichen. Viele werden sich denken, dass sie so etwas Ähnliches wie diesen Song schon einmal gehört haben. Das liegt daran, dass UGK und Short Dog die Idee hatten, Teile des Songs von Too Short's Hit "Life Is... Too $hort" zu samplen, was ein sehr cooler Einfall war. Die zweite Single "The Game Belongs To Me" ist auch etwas bekannter. Der chillige Beat von Pim C ist ein Traum, beinhaltet wieder einige Funk-Elemente und die beiden rappen einfach genial darüber, vor Allem C's Hook ist fantastisch. Wieder sehr funky wurde "Underground Kingz", ist allerdings von der dynamischeren Sorte und man spürt sofort, dass sich UGK dafür von der Motown-Musik der 70er haben inspirieren lassen. Auch dieser Song ist ein echter Hit. Der wohl beste Track der ersten CD ist "Take Tha Hood Back" zusammen mit Slim Thug, Vicious und Middle Fingaz. Diesmal wurde ein richtig fetter South-Beat verwendet, der richtig hart aus den Boxen hämmert, auch die Synthie-Sounds kommen echt geil. Die Performances von Bun B und Pimp C sind grandios, aber auch Vicious und Middle Fingaz zeigen sich von ihrer besten Seite. Das Beste an diesem Song ist jedoch zweifellos Slim Thug mit seiner harten Stimme, der den Hook rappt. Ein göttlicher Track! Eigentlich hätte die erste CD ja schon für ein fantastisches Album gereicht, denn alle Songs sind echt Klasse geworden und bieten neben UGK noch weitere Stars wie Z-Ro und Charlie Wilson, doch es wird noch besser! Gleich der erste Song auf Disc 2 ist wieder ein Wahnsinn. Auf "How Long can It Last", einer weiteren der vielen Hommagen von UGK an sich selbst, ist wieder Charlie Wilson mit dabei und ist quasi das i-Tüpfelchen auf dem wieder richtig Funk lastigen Song mit Mega-Performance von Pimp C, der den Track auch produziert hat. Jazze Pha zeichnet sich für "Stop-N-Go" verantwortlich. Sein Beat wurde gigantisch! Er erinnert auf Grund Trommel und des Metall-Xylophons im Hintergrund etwas an eine Parade der amerikanischen Armee, ab und zu setzten Crunk-Sounds ein, die sich total geil anhören, weshalb man nach diesem Track schon süchtig werden kann. Ein weiteres Highlight ist "Two Type Of Bitches". Auch hier stammt das Instrumental von Pimp C und ist eher chillig und layed back. Pimp C rappt meiner Meinung nach wieder am Besten, aber auch Bun B und der junge Brite Dizzee Rascal performen sehr gut. Lediglich Pimpin' Ken stört etwas, da er seinen Part nur redet, weshalb man schnell genervt weiterskippt. Gleich der nächste Song dreht sich schon wieder um Frauen. Diesmal jedoch um "Real Women" (feat. Talib Kweli und Raheem DeVaughn). Wiedermal ein super chilliger Funk-Song, bei dem Bun B richtig stark performt, doch sie alle werden von Talib Kweli in den Schatten gestellt, da der Beat wie für ihn gemacht ist und er daher eine einfach unbeschreiblich gute Darbietung seiner Skills liefert. Auch auf der zweiten CD gibt es massig an Stars auf grandiosen Liedern. Mit dabei sind unter anderem Rick Ross, Scarface und natürlich Kool G. Rap und Big Daddy Kane auf dem Smash "Next Up". Alle der großartigen Songs anzusprechen würde hier jetzt etwas den Rahmen sprengen, deshalb belasse ich es jetzt mal dabei. Um es kurz zu fassen: "Underground Kingz" ist ein Meisterwerk, bestehend aus Dirty South-Burnern und Funk-Gewittern, bei dem fast die komplette Tracklist gelungen ist und nur wenige durchschnittliche Lieder mit dabei sind. Rap technisch sind die beiden auch nach fast 20 Jahren immer noch auf der Höhe und weisen so manchen Jungspund in seine Schranken. Für mich ist es das beste Album ihrer traumhaften Discographie und definitiv eins der Highlights 2007. Für jeden Fan von UGK und des Dirty Dirty gibt es daher kein Vorbeikommen an diesem Album.

cet album n'est pas nouveau mais merite vraiment un commentaire.Alors qu'on pourrait se mefier d'un double album et y voir un remplissage, la qualité constante sur tous les titres montrent que ce groupe était parmi ce qui se fait de mieux en rap US.Le rap charismatique et ultra technique de bun b se marrie à merveille au flot chanté de pimp c et si les bombes telles "like that" (l'une des meilleures prods de lil'jon) ou int players (avec outkast) sont ultra efficaces, ce sont surtout les morceaux laid back et extrêmement cool (tels life is too short, the game belongs to me ou real women) qui donnent du corps au disque dans un style extrêmement ensoléillé principalement produits par le regrétté pimp C et qui manquent parfois aux solos pourtant classiques de Bun B
