Dhafer (not Dafter!) is a Tunisian with a rather deep resonant voice. Surrounded by great musicians, he weaves a spell of sound, often charged with emotion. His unique culture shines through and takes you on a journey, man.This album has a lovely texture and compositional structure. Every song is memorable and melodic. Use of local instruments ensures there's something that will keep the ears interested.Although different to Tiny Island I feel this CD invokes the same response from me - relaxation, inner glow and satisfaction.When I have loaned this CD to friends, I've always had trouble getting it back.In Australia this is distributed by Newmarket Music - give them a call - it's wholesome nurturing music for the soul.

Malak - which means angel in arabic - is a (different) kind of music ,and to determine why i am using the word (different) would be rather difficult.Dhafer's voice is astonishing ,its flawless in covering many octaves ,not a single note is out of place ,the vibrato is amazing ... its just perfect.People may think that this mixture of oriental and occidental music is coarse and vulgar ,but as it may seem right for many (fake) attempts by many so-called wannabes musicians ,its the whole way round in dhafer youssef's case.The mysticism that overwhelms the spirit of this albums (like all of dhafer's works) ,this (sufi) soul that is long forgotten by us in our cold world is vivid and intense , like it should be.An antidote for pragmatism ... a new perspective of life

Gorgeous, diaphanous, otherworldly. His music has the same beauty as Alberto Iglesias's scores [Kite Runner, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy].

I like Dhafer's voice and this album is a good one, however i'm just chilling to it in the car when he starts screeching sometimes it seems for the sake of proving how long he can hold a note or rather screech. This style is fine and forms part of his music and his range is vast but this music at its best does more than impress with noise - it touches the soul and make you think - its hard to think if someone is screeching at you. Hopefully he will indulge the melody and north african rythnm of his music a bit more rather than the castrato like catta walling. It not the screaming sytle, this in moderation enhances the feels such as in gypsy kings music it the high pitch of it !!

OH DHAFER YOUSSEF....MalakThis man takes you to another place... I suggest you listen in a cold morning, then you need a coffee...and something sweet to make sure you sit down and ENJOY Malak. Then you want more of his other stuff... Happy Listening!

Anche se scoperto da poco tempo, anche se il disco è del 1998, ho trovato Dhafer un grande interprete, oltre che una VOCE tra le più interessanti anche per estensione. Jazz etnico da approfondire, abbastanza complesso per le nostre orecchie occidentali, ma molto, molto bello, vario mai stancante. La band di supporto tra il bassista spagnolo Garcia-Fons e Marcus Stockhausen trumpet e flugelhorn, le chitarre di Nguyen Le con il contorno di vari percussionisti tra cui l'italiano Carlo Rizzo, ci mette del suo con misurata eleganza. Gran bel disco per palati fini.Registrazione e ripresa eccellenti, consiglio l'ascolto con impianti audio di livello, per gustare a pieno tutti i dettagli.

Ho comprato due cd dello stesso artista con lo stesso acquisto. Le sonorità sono meditative . La consegna è stata perfetta e le condizioni anche

Comme tout les albums de Dhafer Youssef c'est 'Beau, bien que je trouve cet album moins évolué que Divine Shadow par exemple.
