Lavender's Blue

I grew up with this book and love to share it with my kids and now grandkids. There is material for a range of ages. Some of the material may be a little jarring to sensitive moderns. "There I met an old man who would not say his prayers, so I took him by the left leg and threw him down the stairs". Etc. LOL.

I bought it really for the work of the illustrator but it’s a very enjoyable collection of Mother Goose rhymes! The title rhyme is a particular favorite.

A beautiful old fashioned book, which I shall give to my niece for her first born. She mentioned this book to me when I was singing the nursery rhyme "Lavender's Blue" as I rocked her newborn, and she said she remembers a book from her childhood with the name "Lavender's Blue" and how much she loved it. I hope this is the book she remembers, but even if it isn't its a beautiful book with delightful illustrations and lots of traditional nursery rhymes.

This is one of the best collections of Nursery Rhymes for children: both in the content (many lesser known rhymes that are delightful to discover) and the fantastic illustrations. I have read up on the way the rhythm and cadence of rhyming stories, like Dr. Seuss and classic nursery rhymes, stimulates babies' reception of language even as young as 10 months. And I noticed, with my youngest, that it really does worK

I have hunted long and hard for a Nursery Rhyme book and I found this closest to my expectations.

LOVE this little book. Nursery rhymes and all-important finger plays are included. Little-known, yet culturally relevant prose. Simple, beautifully illustrated. A treasure for parents of small childre.

This is the book I give as a first birthday gift to all our extended family babies. Naturally have a copy that is fifty years old kept from my children's book collections.

A book to cherish. All the traditional nursery rhymes are here, beautifully illustrated, every alternate page in colour. The book has a timeless quality. It reconnects me to my own childhood and is the book I would give to my grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The perfect gift for a new baby if you want to encourage a life-long love of books.

Lovely book filled with all those rhymes from our childhood. We will enjoy sharing this with new generation of kids.

Absolutely wonderful book . Downside is that the colour saturation of the pictures not so good as previous book acquired about 10 years ago. This book was for a friend and reprint not as good. Whites have a yellow tinge !!

I hve been giving this book to special children since it was published and they have always loved it; the latest recipient, Matilda, had the prescience to be born on my birthday!I anticipate her taking great joy from the gathering together ibetween the two covers a treasury of favourites , many found only here, with fascinating illustrations.Unique - don't miss it!

it brought back many memories of my own childhood plus my children's childhood. How many people can remember their rhymes. Buy this book and take yourself back to a forgotten past.
