Who knew I could fix my own back pain?!
This book was recommended to me by a friend who swore by the results she saw and I am forever grateful. I thought my lower back pain was caused by twenty years of competitive horseback riding (and many falls) but Chris Crowley and Dr. James were right. It was actually caused by my own bad habits...endless hours hunched over my laptop. The exercises outlined in the book are simple to do and take about 10 minutes each morning. They're well explained and illustrated with "troubleshooting" techniques if anything is uncomfortable. I noticed a difference within a week. The book is very quick, easy to read and actually even funny. I highly recommend it to anyone who has given up activities they love due to back pain.

When the student is ready, the teacher will appear
I had a severe episode of sciatica three weeks ago (unable to stand, walk, or even sit) and saw my doctor who recommended Jeremy's book and his web site. Just reading the book and practicing the "neutral spine" concept and the recommended isometrics brought immediate relief. Although I am still in pain, in one week, I am down from a 9/10 to a 6/10.I am convinced that using a "neutral spine" prevented the sciatica from getting worse. Last time I had sciatica, I was constantly putting my back out again and again. But this time, once I realized the correct posture, my lower back, hips, and thigh were able to rest and start healing instead of being continuously stressed from bad posture and turning.Reading his book, I came out of denial and realized my eight hour stressful job was literally killing my back. I am overweight, and came to terms that I have to lose weight and tone up my core muscles. There's nothing like pain as a motivator! I have already lost 10 lbs., that's how motivated I am! I am also toning my core which is imperative to healing and preventing another episode. Also, I realized the necessity of walking even for five minutes every half hour is imperative when I return to work. When in pain, it's hard to grasp new ideas or understand the complexity of the spine. Years ago, when I went to PT, I didn't understand what the therapist was telling me, there were too many new concepts, poorly drawn illustrations, and it was just plain exhaustion getting to and from the appointments. But now, I can follow the concepts and the steps in Jeremy's book which are laid out in a way that makes them easy to understand. There is also a ton of helpful information and the book is written in a way that is encouraging and motivational. Also, Jeremy's web site: backforever.com has an initial assessment you take to see where you should start. The videos are easy to understand and there is so much good information! Thank you Jeremy, I was ready to learn, and working with you and my doctor, I have a treatment plan I can actually follow and want to follow because I am seeing the results right away. Thank you!

Love YNY Series: Aging Happens
I read Younger Next Year when it was first published. Recommended it to all who over-exercise, believe it or not. While far from perfect in sticking with its recommendations, being active in sport and recreation has always played a role in my life. And, I have done it all ... horseback riding, running, tennis, golf, riding a back, playing soccer and basketball with my sons ... all fun, but hurting. At 64, finding golf injuries frustrating, it was time to renew my convictions. Here comes the Back Book! How timely! Over the years, when your back hurts, you will try anything. Tapes, Pilates, braces, pills, exercises ... on and on. All have worked to a varying degrees. At this stage of life, other than select supplements, I don't like medicines of any kind. Had maybe one flu shot. My immunity is the best of my life, probably because I ended air travel. Never understood cholesterol-reducing drugs. Never taken them. They made no sense. When I asked how they worked, no doc pushed them. Thank goodness. Cholesterol, you know, can be good for the brain. However, aerobic exercise, diet, and enjoying sport all make sense. There's the reality of arthritis. Strangely, my hip, where it first began, has improved since 50. I don't really know why. Probably less golf. Golf puts serious hurt on a body. Many parts. None are more concerning than the back.YNY is fantastic. I re-started, with some modified Sprint 8 interval training workouts, and added the Back Book. What a delightful discussion. The authors are masters of brevity. Chris's humor is still there. Because I don't want to spend my life exercising ... the Back Book fits the bill. An easy read. Makes sense. For all of my life, I have been a sloucher. My mother's voice rings in my ears. Stand up straight. When I do the dishes nightly, I always wondered why my back hurt. Guess what? I slouch. Use my spine. For no other reason, buy this book for the grape fruit. Yes, when you read it, you will get it. This has changed my life. I now know where neutral is. Someday it will become a habit because of these authors. Thank you, guys.

Highly recommend this book for back pain sufferers!
A friend recommended this book - we have both read other books in the "Younger Next Year" series and I've only had it a few days and have already been recommending it to a lot of friends who also have back pain. Although I regularly see an chiropractor/acupuncturist and take a weekly Scoliosis Pilates classes, I always felt like there was something I must be doing wrong with my posture, etc. but I could never quite figure it out. Turns out there was - this book has already provided a lot of new information and I am already feeling better. I love the way it is written and signed up for the 10 week program through the coordinating backforever.com website hoping to heal my back and get on the right track - finally.

A life free from back pain is what this book delivers.
Another wonderful Younger Next Year book with the same charm, humour and information. Jeremy James writes in a clear and informative manner giving directions on how to take care of your back and the simple exercises which will ensure a pain free back for life. I no longer have any back pain and I intend to stay that way. I have also subscribed to Jeremy’s Back Forever course which guides my total exercise program. As always Chris Crowley provides lots of humour and cuts to the chase on the need to follow the advice given.

Back pain help that's really does help.
I've had a back problem for twenty plus years, this book is a repeat of everything I've read in most of the other "back books". I have read a lot of books pertaining back problems to try to help myself..... I've gotten some help, but in reality it's just a repeat.

Good book.
This is a great book and is written in everyday language, but is also very explanatory of medical conditions and terminology. The book focuses on lower back problems and, although my back problem is thoracic, I still found it helpful.

Didn't like it
Exercises should be all together instead of thru out the book.
