Gets the job done, but cheaply made.
You're only going to buy this thermometer for the price and there's nothing wrong with that -- just expect to get what you pay for. The thermometer works, but here are a few things that annoy me.1. The temperature is ALWAYS changing. If you move it just the slightest bit, the temperature will change -- there is no HOLD button.2. The little white buttons get stuck under the black plastic. When you push in the button, it gets pushed beneath the plastic and sometimes won't come back up. Fortunately, you just have to move it around a little, but I'm scared one of these days it'll get stuck permanently.3. It just feels cheaply made. To add on to my point about the buttons, it just feels like cheap plastic. It feels like it's a toy thermometer. I'm scared to accidentally drop it because I know it's going to break.Overall, the thermometer works. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to use it and it gets the job done. I just want everyone to have realistic expectations. Hope this helps.UPDATE: I went to register for the "warranty" on their website, and after I filled out the form, I get a message that reads, "This sign up form is not working. Please contact the website administrator." I'm crossing my fingers this doesn't break.

Must have for my new grill
I use a standard kitchen quick read thermometer for my indoor oven, but needed something faster (and longer!) for my grill to avoid the more rapid heat loss. I am really enjoying using this new TufferGear thermometer: six meals cooked in the two weeks since I got my grill: burgers, chicken breasts, whole tenderloin, lamb chops, top sirloin, salmon. It works fast to limit grill heat loss and singed fingers, penetrates food easily and seems quite accurate based on looking at the food after cooking in terms of the rare to well continuum. The thermometer also reads quickly as the temp of the food goes down, which is important for me, as this indicates when some parts of the food are less done than other parts, so I can adjust placement on the grill and/or grill temp in that area. I like the flexibility of changing angles of the probe, especially when I want to get the center temp of thinner cuts such as boneless chicken breasts and fish. Easy on-off too. Hopefully it keeps up the good work over time, but as of now, worth every penny.

Three Stars
Flimsy, not what I expected.

why pay more?
My son in law wanted a specific meat thermometer for Christmas--over a $100--the TufferGear is WAAY less, the specs looked similar except for memory. Didn't really need one (the wife does most of the grilling) but I ordered one anyway. The TufferGear arrived first. The highpriced model did not function any better and the two were within 0.3 degrees of each other. Used the TufferGear last night on a stuffed chicken breast and it said it wasn't done yet despite it looking ready to eat (guess I was too hungry) cooked it another 15" and it was just right. The TufferGear gets my vote.

... alot of the high dollar thermos that look just like this one
I compete in pro and semi pro BBQ competitions and see alot of the high dollar thermos that look just like this one, at first I was cautiously considering this one's ability due to its low price, but I gave it a go, I can honestly report that this unit performs just as well as its predecessor for a fraction of the cost, all I can say is you better get you a couple because you will not find it at this price for long in my opinion, just saying, I love mine, it helped me place 2nd in brisket among 15 bad ass cookers !!!

Flimsy & manual on/off
This thermometer is very flimsy and requires you turn it on and off manually. There are far better choices for your money.
