Nice and quiet!
I love how quiet it is, as advertised. But it's top-heavy and hard to pull out from under the desk.

NY's eve added value
This is an excellent product. It not only shreds those documents but turns them into small confetti which could come in handy for that big year end party? Mulching, insulation? Well, maybe not that, but you get the idea. Easy to set up, figure out and ready to start doing its deal within a minute of two of having been removed from its packing box.The confetti collects in a small trash container that can easily be removed then dumped into a trash bag for easy removal. Sliding the emptied container back into the shredder and closing the door to a click makes it operational for the next batch of work. One cautionary note: After about 25-30 minutes of continual use, my unit overheated and shut down,(red light displayed on top of unit) requiring a 10 minute rest stop before going back (green light opposite the red showed) to operational mode again. For home office use, it's everything one could need but probably wouldn't be a good choice for a busy office where the increased volume of shredding would overload its little 'I think I can' mechanical heart. That said, it steps out smartly and is able to shred a grocery bag size of documents continuously before doing that aforementioned redline act but it's faster than you might think. It also has a smaller slot for shredding old credit cards and CDs which is a nice extra benefit. I didn't know quite what to expect given this is my first shredder for home use, but can confidently report this unit under promised and over delivered. In this uncertain consumer products world, providing that kind of certainty is both rare and welcomed and it carries my recommendation.

Good quiet shredder for home use
Micro-cut is the only way to go for paper shredder and this fits the bill. Do not bother with other models with strip-cut that is not worthwhile for security. This unit is good for home and small office because of its size and quietness. It is rated for 8 minutes of continuous use, which is good, especially because it shuts-off automatically with indicator when overheated. This is in contrast to some other models that just quits or dies when overheated. I find that 5 minutes is about its limit when doing 8-10 pages at a time. Each 8x11" sheet takes about 6 seconds.Obviously it is not silent, but it is very quiet. It can shred credit card and CD/DVD.On the slight negative side, the throat is not much wider than 8.5", so the paper has to be fed a little more carefully than many other similar models. It is a bit of a pain when feeding paper compared to other models. This one has a micro-cut size of 2x15mm which is on the long side, that means the writing should be horizontal to get the maximum shredding effect. For example, envelope should be fed folded and fed horizontally rather than vertically for maximum security. The throat is also deep, which might be safer but the auto-start switch gets triggered before the mechanism grabs the paper, so sometimes the motor keeps running with paper stuck and the paper has be nudged in.One desirable feature missing on this model is a "paper-full" indicator. Although the basket has a clear window to tell how much paper is there, I use a bag inside the basket for easier emptying but that blocks window and the confetti makes a mess when overflows. I owned other units that had sensor to stop when the basket is full.

I read many reviews before I bought this shredder and I totally agree this is the best shredder ever-NOT! [See edits]
10 stars!! NOT [See edits below] This review is for the CM-M10CD shredder not the M12CD that is pictured at top of my review. Not sure why that shredder is pictured.I read many reviews before I bought this shredder and I totally agree this is the best shredder ever! It is very quiet and eats paper like a champ. The first few days after we received it, we shredded boxes of papers. It never got hot or jammed, just kept humming along. I love the castors for easy moving, the bin drawer with the see-through window to tell how full the bin is, the ease of the buttons and the side on/off switch. The price was a great deal too as Amazon has it half the price of 2 other sites I visited.Love, Love, Love!Hopefully I will never have to do an edit on this review as I expect it to last a verrrry long time.*********EDIT********UPDATE JUNE 2015--OK, HERE'S THE DEAL. LOVED THIS SHREDDER FOR 8 MONTHS THEN THE AUTO-FEED QUIT WORKING. Worked 1 min then quit working the next. Won't take in a sheet of paper at all.I have emailed the vendor SimplyGlobo to see about a refund. If no satisfaction will contact Amazon. There is a 5 yr warranty on the shredder blades and 1 yr on all other parts.**********EDIT #2****UPDATE JULY 9, 2015Contacted SimplyGlobo and their customer service [Summer] was great. They sent a replacement of same MD10CD after I paid $30 shipping. Did not have to send old one back.RECEIVED NEW shredder yesterday. Worked well for 3 min...then IT QUIT WORKING!!!Won't turn on, no lights, nothing.Have already contacted seller again to see what they say. I DO NOT want another MD10CD.July 11, 2015--Seller notified me via email that they would be sending me the upgraded CM-M12CDD. No $30 fee this time and I don't have to send the old one back. Will update how the M12CD works after I get it. [prayers may be needed here...lol]

Actually, no longer good
Worked fine in light use for not quite two years. By "light use," I mean it shredded single sheets of paper, and I hadn't yet needed to empty the shredder bin. Then it made a bang loud enough to set off my security alarm (not exaggerating -- it really did set off the alarm). It's dead. It's out of warranty, and Comet is only offering a 25% discount on a new shredder, and then only if I buy directly from them. Needless to say, I won't be accepting their offer.I won't give this one star, because it did take two years to implode. But I certainly expected it to last long enough to have to empty the shredder bin. Never again, Comet.
