Wish it were more easily reversible
I had been looking into light modifiers for speedlights for quite some time, with an eye on flexibility and ease of use and transport. This model of flashbender is the smaller one - it will not provide as wide a reflective surface as the bigger flashbener, resulting is a slightly harder light, but it is still significant.I find myself using it a lot mounted in reverse, i.e. with the black side of the reflector turned towards the flash head itself, so as to use it as a flag for low-key portraits (i.e. I use it to avoid flash light on the background that I want to remain black). It could be better designed for that purpose: the velcro is only on one side and it makes it a little tedious to attach, but the results are good.I also used it as a rough snoot but there the results are not as clean as with a grid. Nonetheless useable when caught off guard without your trusted Rogue ROGUEGRID 3-In-1 Stacking Honeycomb Grid System with Pouch for all Shoe-Mount Flashes with Flash Units from Canon, Nikon, Sony, Metz, Nissin, Pentax, Olympus and Others .I also use the bigger ones ( Rogue FlashBenders ROGUERELG Large Positionable Reflector ).For nearly the same price they are a little less easy to fold and carry around, but more efficient at giving you a smooth light source. They are also heavier and will make the head of your flash droop if you try and set it to 45 degrees. For this last reason if I were to loose this smaller one I would still replace it instead of buying another of the bigger flashbenders.

Nice portable flash diffuser and light modifier!
I have been intrigued by this product ever since I saw it in a magazine. I have been using a Demb Photo-Journalist Flip-It for quite some time and have been very happy with it. But it's a little small and I wanted something just a little bigger for times when I need to bounce more light. The FlashBender comes with a stretchable velcro attachment and mounts easily on my Canon 430EX-II flash. It's great because you can bend it to modify light in any direction and even shape it into a snoot. There are two bendable wires inside the FlashBender so it's very easy to adjust it if the lighting is not right. Simply give it a bend here or there and tweak it the way you want. I have used this for bouncing, diffusing, and directing flash and it was worked effectively. The FlashBender is washable so you can keep the nice white surface clean. Also, because it is flexible, it is very portable and can be folded flat and put it into your camera bag. My small Demb Flip-It easily folds up as well so both products always travel with me when I take my flash along. The only reason I deducted a star is that, even though it's not that large, it is still a little awkward. My smaller-sized Demb Flip-It is, well, smaller and less intimidating when taking pictures of people.Overall, this is a really good light modifier for Speedlite users. It's versatile and portable and will certainly make your shots look better when using this with your external flash unit than without one.

Not a panacea, but better than ceiling bounce
This FlashBender isn't a panacea for creating natural lighting effects, but it's better than bouncing the same flash unit off the ceiling. I can't afford a really high-powered flash unit, so at night when there's only lamplight in our rooms, bouncing the flash off our ceilings is marginal at best. That's probably because half the light from the flash ends up illuminating the space behind me. With the FlashBender in place, and the flash unit still pointed primarily at the ceiling, the light that would have gone behind me gets bounced forward instead of being wasted. That light brightens the shadows, and it puts catchlights (specular highlights) in people's eyes. The limitation of the FlashBender is that it can direct too much light forward and cause the same kinds of stark shadows that are produced by direct flash. It can take some experimental shots and a bit of fussing with the angle of the flash unit and the shaping of the FlashBender to produce a natural-looking lighting effect, and as soon as I move to amy different position, that process has to be repeated.

Almost too much flexibility!
I have used and liked a Lumaquest bounce system and really considered getting another for my new Metz 48 flash, but I decided to give the Rogue a try. And am I happy that I did! The flexibility gives you so much control over the bounce and the direction of the lighting that it takes some time experimenting to feel like you are getting the most out of it. But taking some time to experiment will pay of in more usable shots and, ultimately, more creative shots as well.Another great thing is how easily this packs away. While it is flat so it can slide in a small area, I actually keep it attached to my flash upside down and simply wrap it around the flash. The whole unit slips in where I store the flash in my camera bag, so it is always available quickly.I have docked it one star for a reason that others have mentioned and that is that it is heavy enough that it can sometimes cause the bounce-head of the flash to flop down when you have it angled. But this is not always and is not a major issue - certainly not something that would keep me from recommending the Rogue to a fried!

Works well as both a reflector and a snoot. Doesn't fit quite well on large-headed speedlites.
I bought this because I had a shoot in a smallish room coming up where I needed to be able to keep light from bouncing off the walls and ceiling. The white area folds onto itself and holds in place via a strip of velcro. A word of caution, however, it is a *very* tight fit on speedlites with large heads, such as the newer Canon 600EX-RT. It works, but it just takes some fanagling, and I haven't been able to get it on there without spilling some light around and behind it.As a flash bouncer, it does a nice job, too, though it doesn't seem to catch as much light as the other two versions. I *highly* recommend getting the large version, as it is much more flexible and has a much nicer throw of light to it. Still, nothing wrong with this one as it is. Maybe a bit pricey, but it will certainly never fall apart on you.

flexable reflector
this reflector came flat packed in cardboard , when i opened it and played around with it for a couple of minuets i wasnt all that impressed at first thinking that it was to flimsy and fabricycompared to all the lumiquest reflectors i have, but when i fitted it to my 540mk 2 it was i bit more secure and i was impressed with how well its made and the easy secure velcro strap.I bought this reflector after reading Neil van Niekerk's book 'on camera flash' which has changed the way i have set up my camera and flash and also where i bounce my flash off of, and tocopy Neils style of flash this flash bender seemed perfect, and when i did this and was able to redirect flash off differant walls and area's by 'bending'this reflector for my needs.i dont put it on like the pictures show ,i fix it on upside down,so you can turn the flash away from modle bounce from ceiling and a couple of walls and sheild the flash direct light on the model (as i learnt from Neils book 'on camera flash') and sometimes bend it to a snoot to bounce off a reflector or wall .As i have read on web pages and reveiws and experienced many years of wedding and function photography ,,'there is no perfect all round reflector' i have the lumiquest pro max, quickbounceultabounce, softboxes and even a stofen (with holes cut in top) and i use them all to suit my shooting needs in varying enviroments and rooms halls or outside venues.this flashbender is a welcome reflector to my kit as allows a lot more flexability in flash direction in certain situations.

Eccellente modificatore portatile e versatile!

As good as all the reviews say
I first tried this at a Halloween party, it was dark and the room had olive green slanting walls/ceiling, normally a bounce nightmare. Even despite several drinks, the photos came out amazingly well with little concentration and effort on my part. I quickly found an aperture that worked and took great photos, the white bounce really brought out the vivid colours of the costumes/make up. It was securely mounted and despite being knocked about stayed firm on the camera. I was torn between I should get the larger one, I decided on the small and think it is more than large enough. This is perfect for club/party photography.

Useful.
Better than using direct flash but a little small. Not as effective as the larger flashbender. Does not cope well when using the camera in the portrait position. But a usefull aid nonetheless. Ironically, the quality of the packaging outweighs the quality of the product!
