Nicamaka Black Out Sleep Canopy

I ordered the Nicamaka Black Out Sleep Canopy through Amazon with fulfillment by Nicamaka. The shipping was speedy.The product itself was far from disappointing, but neither will it win any awards. It comes in the kind of zippered clear plastic packaging that is common for sheets and comforters. Only the canopy itself is included. There are no instructions, warnings, or mounting hardware.The material is a black, man-made fabric with a feel similar to a parachute. It is light weight. My bed is right against a window, and the black material blocks a great deal of the light, but not all of it. In the middle of the night, it is pitch black inside. In the middle of the day, a purplish glow comes through.The quality of the stitching is not impressive. Eight loops made of the same fabric are sewn at the four corners and in the middles of the four sides. Because I do not have a four-poster, I suspended the canopy from hooks purchased from a hardware store. A moderate tug ripped a loop off the canopy, though I am fortunate the hook did not pull out of the ceiling. Four loops are sufficient to hold the weight of the canopy, but all eight are needed to get the canopy to hang properly.When hung correctly, the canopy does indeed give the impression of an enclosed space. The canopy does not appreciably block sound. It's a good canopy, but not a great one.

I thought the reviewer who described this looking like a trash bag had been exaggerating, but I discovered otherwise. The product details said it would work for Queen or King size bed. I used it on the former. You can take a look at the photo to see what you think.Other than it being poorly sized and looking like crap... The fabric is thin, but I wouldn't say cheap. It's more like a sheer windbreaker. I can see wanting it thicker. On the other hand, there's something to be said for allowing more airflow so that it doesn't get too stuffy while sleeping at night. The stitching looked okay, but I don't know how it would hold up in multiple washes. Lastly, I didn't notice any pungent odors.Needless to say, I sent it back. The merchant promptly provided a refund, but beware: Even though it's delivered via Prime, you have to pay for postage. I managed to get it back into the original shipping envelope, and paid $20 for U.S. Postal.

I have never complained about an an Amazon product before and have rated only one other Amazon product. I love Amazon.com, am a PRIME member and a very busy person so this complaint/rating means a lot to me. Its the second review I've posted, though I have spent $1,000's of dollars on Amazon!This is NOT parachute material. This is a giant cheap PLASTIC GARBAGE BAG. If this were a parachute, no one would survive the jump, in fact it probably wouldn't even make a good garbage bag; material is actually that cheap and to boot, it arrived with holes in it. It cost $139.00 but my husband and I feel that the product is worth less than $5.00. Its a truely bad product and a huge let down.It probably cost $1 (including material and labor)to make in Nicaragua which is where I am confident it was made as the seller lists their name as NICAMAKA. I used to travel extensively in Nicaragua and I am familiar with the quality products of the region and the not so great ones as well..I understand that the seller has to pay for importation and of course must make a profit, but no garbage bag is worth $139.00 no matter how big it is. Do not buy. You're better off buying five trash bags and taping them together because you will get a better result.

I was a bit worried that I made the wrong decision to buy this due to the bad reviews but I received it today and I'm very pleased. I don't think it looks like a plastic bin bag at all. The material is like a lightweight tent fabric with a shiny coating on the inside that, presumably, makes it more opaque. Hung on its own I don't think it would be so attractive, but I layered it with a black mesh canopy over it (also sold on Amazon), used long black satin sashes as tie backs, and the effect is very gothic bohemian and luxurious. Just what I wanted. I'm sure I'll sleep like a baby tonight as it is very dark and womb-like inside the canopy.

Works great on my four tall post bed just what I needed. Plus my dogs do not like it so that is wonderful so I can once again sleep without them making me hot by snuggling against me all the time. Wonderful peacefulness in sleep ahhhhhj thanks I love it!

Ended up returning the canopy, It didn't work in my bedroom

Love it,sleep longer under this tentlike...price good for what you get...kinda wrinkled..if it comes in deffrent colour for exterior will buy it.very private and fast shipping..

Works ok but doesn't fit full sized bed all that well.
