If you're a primary grade teacher this is a great book to have. Young writers have so much to say but, sometimes they are written in drawings and scribbles. This book will help you appreciate how rich children's illustrations are: with their thoughts, writing processes, language and story telling (if only given the chance). BUY IT, the book is truly worth it!I also highly recommend About the Authors by Katie Wood Ray.

I had to get this because she has a handle on young children and the range of skills teachers and children need to take on learning how to read and write. Another great resource:)

This book is filled with wonderful research and ideas for utilizing the complex art of illustration study with students. We often only ask students to make sure "their pictures match their words." In this text, we are able to help student use illustration for making meaning and relaying meaning to their reader. I would totally recommend Katie's book!

Great information for teacher of beginning writers!!!

Good teaching resource for art teachers in the elementary field, but a lot of the lessons seem to split hairs quite a bit, and comes off as "filler" on the author's part. That being said, it's not bad.

This text is a must for any educator. An arts-based approach to literacy has been far more effective in reaching my reluctant writers and Ray offers proven techniques to make your teaching effective.

The book came quickly, and has become another great go-to resource.
