They are worth it. Lasts a long time. **Q: Is it metal** A: Its plastic but the back part is like metal, I gave this as a present and thats what I remember. They are my favorite pens and I have continued to use them. I tend to lose one before it runs out of ink. I found early on that a Space Pen refill would fit a Parker body and make a reasonable substitute for a genuine Space Pen, but, for some reason, the refill stopped working quite so well in Parker bodies. They would jam and be difficult to use. When I saw an original Space Pen on Amazon, I ordered two. They work perfectly, and my writing happiness is complete. The story is that NASA spent millions on research to make a pen that writes upside down, in a vacuum, under water, and when it stops writing, really is out of ink. The Soviets gave the Cosmonauts pencils.
