Yioryo Greek Oregano, Crushed, 0.5 Pound

I had run low on my usual supply of oregano and due to the 130 mile round trip to a grocery store that carriered any good Greek oregano decided to check on line with amazon. After reading the great reveiws on Yioryo Greek crused oreqano I ordered this. Must admit I was a little skeptical at first of ordering any spices on line but after receiving my shipment in record time and imediately trying some on some Greek style baked chicken and also shaking some on my dinner salad was sold. The amount is three times more then what I normally purchase and a heck of alot cheaper. I am very happy with the aroma and taste and would recommend to any one that wants to try some. I like this, and I use it, but when I want a really strong oregano tea I go for the Wild Greek Oregano sold on Amazon in about 50 gm cellophane packets that comes with dried leaves attached to brittle little branches. The Wild Greek Oregano is really not convenient to use as a spice, because of all the branches, however. For tea I just pull out a few branches and crunch them up in a tea cup and pour boiling water over them. For cooking, however, Yioryo Greek Oregano is excellent.

I have bought Krinos Greek Oregano on the stem for years and it has a deep Green color and excellent flavor. Upon receiving this, I noticed the comparison is quite different. This is a more flat green color, not as fresh looking and the smell is significantly different, far less superior quality. I do like that there are no stems to deal with but I'll take the stems for a higher quality product.

I have been fortunate to have tasted and cooked with the real thing, sent home by friends travelling in Greece, so I was more than a little disappointed when this arrived. It was nothing like i expected given the many positive reviews. There was just 1 reviewer who said "disgusting!" Now I wouldn't go quite that far, but that should have been a clue, clearly the rest of you don't know what it's supposed to taste and smell like. She seems to be the only one with discerning taste buds! This stuff is going on the compost heap.

This may be the best oregano I've ever used - certainly for the price. The aroma is wonderful and although this is a relatively large package I am going to have no trouble using it. It is so good in my Italian dishes (Lasagna especially), pizza sauce, in salad dressing, soups, baked chicken, turkey burgers ... I'm adding it to everything!

Great quality and very good value. Good dried Greek oregano has a combination of an almost minty and spicy aroma. This stuff has it in spades. The crush is just right for me (not powdery, not too rough of a cut) and zero stems and twigs. I will definitely buy again and am hoping the quality is consistent.
