Solid Performance
I've really liked this product. It's built solid and it feels like it will reliable for years to come. It's also a lot easier to use a fingerprint reader than typing in passwords, or using a password manager.

Did not work for me.
This review is for the Verifi P5100 Premium Metal USB Fingerprint Reader for Windows 10. I normally don't write reviews because you get some good and some bad products. No company can be perfect. However I felt impelled to write a review for this product because of the price compared to other fingerprint readers. I can't really rate this product because I never got it to work before sending it back. I purchased this product based on other reviews but mostly on the claims on the item page. It claims to work well and fast, easy install. I tried installing this item on three different computers, Windows 7, Windows 10, and windows 11. I got the same errors on all 3 computers: Your device is having trouble recognizing you. Make sure your sensor is clean. Sorry, something went wrong. Close Windows Hello, and try going through the setup again. Move your finger slightly lower. Move your finger slightly higher. Move your finger slightly to the left. Identical on all computers and operating systems. I am going to need over 100 of these for computer protection and if it is this hard to install on one computer I don't have the time to waste on 100+ computers. This item might work well for some but if it is that sensitive it won't work for my purpose anyway.

Easy to install, medium accuracy
Win10 Build 19041.388. Included drivers wouldn't install, couldn't detect "Windows Biometric Framework". However Windows detected and installed the device on insertion (Driver install still no go even after Windows detection, tried web site drivers too). Windows Hello detected the reader and allowed me to enroll finger prints. I will say the detection rate on this sensor is just OK. Took many attempts to enroll a finger (thumb too). However once enrolled it has been working well to unlock my workstation.

The best Fingerprint Reader
I wish I had discovered this product years ago as have always used Fingerprint Readers with my Windows based workstations. Prior to using the Verifi P5100 I used several other brands (Some cheap & nasty and others far more expensive) and without fail they ranged from only logging me in 20% of the time to a maximum of 50% of the time. The Verifi P5100 logs me in 100% of the time and as a result I disposed of all Fingerprint Readers in my company and replaced on multiple Workstations with only the Verifi P5100 and never looked back. This definitely is by far and away the best Fingerprint Reader on the market today.

Not recommended. Item is used and doesn't work.
Does not work. I am an experienced IT person and have used fingerprint reader for years most from the same brand "Verifi". I strongly believe this vendor Pierpoint is selling used items and not stating they are used. I worked with Verifi support after reading the documentation from Verifi. The drivers installed with no problem and they are the latest. I am using a Windows 11 v25H2 desktop. During the setup there was never any indication (according to the Verifi support person) on the Windows desktop while repeating the fingerprint pressing. The device looks in good shape, but was missing documentation and the USB containing the driver and password manager software. I do not recommend purchasing this item from Amazon. Also Verifi support was told to not support this device if purchased from Amazon.

Almost returned it until the "Dead" problem was solved
I installed the reader and it seemed to work fine. But the next day when I booted the computer, it was dead. I reinstalled it, and it worked again. Shut down and restarted the computer and it was dead again. There was no installation guide delivered with the fingerprint reader. I found one online but it did not include extremely important install information. I arranged to return the reader and started reading reviews of similar products. One review for the Kensington product solved the problems I was having. It pointed out that Windows by default sets all of your USB ports and the biometric device itself to turn off if not used for awhile. Type "Device Manager" into the search bar on your taskbar or in Settings & open Device Manager. Look in the list of devices, expand "Biometric devices," right-click the fingerprint reader, select "Properties," then click the "Power Management" tab. De-select "Allow the computer to turn off..." Select or de-select to use it to wake the computer as you wish. Back in Device Manager, follow this routine for the computer's "Universal Serial Bus controllers" to stop Windows from turning them off. The amount of power used is negligible, and your fingerprint reader should work fine. Only 4 stars because the manufacturer provides no up front information about this problem.

Not compatible with Linux, slow on windows
Windows 10: Drivers must be installed before use. Enrollment is not a smooth process. But it does absolutely work. Unlocking is slow, much slower than the p2100. The secugen u20 pro unlocks much faster as well. Linux: tested Ubuntu 18.04.3 (lts) You will not be able to use this reader to login into your session (like windows). Fprintd (needed to do so) does not support this device. Enrollment will just freeze. The reader appears to fail scans infinitely. Even without a finger on the device.

Amazing Fingerprint Recognition Device
Amazing, works perfectly with Windows 10 Pro, no more password typing and only takes a couple of seconds. I love it!

Nothing premium about it
Considering the cost of this device, I expected more. This doesn't hold up in comparison to any fingerprint sensor in a laptop or mobile phone. It's slow to recognize fingers, sometimes fails entirely to respond, and is awkward & unreliable to connect to Windows Hello. When I include the complexity of getting the device recognized in Windows at all, having to hunt for drivers, I'm astonished at the low overall quality of the experience for the amount charged.
