The Sharp EL-1801V is hands-down one of the best printing calculators I’ve used in my career. From the moment I plugged it in, I was impressed by its crisp, two-color printing and the large, easy-to-read 12-digit LCD display. Whether I’m calculating margins, reconciling accounts, or preparing reports, this calculator keeps up with my pace thanks to its fast 2.5 lines-per-second print speed. The dedicated cost/sell/margin keys are a game-changer for quick business calculations, and the One-Touch Change Calculation function is a thoughtful addition that saves time. The keys are well-spaced and responsive, making long sessions of data entry comfortable and error-free. It’s built like a tank—solid, stable, and clearly designed for heavy use. I appreciate that it uses a standard Victor IR40T ink roller, which is easy to replace and keeps maintenance simple. While it’s AC-powered and not portable, that’s a fair trade-off for the performance and reliability it offers. If you need a dependable calculator for your desk that won’t let you down, the EL-1801V is a fantastic choice. Perfect calculator for me! I have had this for a few months and I use it daily with no issues. The keys are big enough for my fat fingers and it feels very well made. It is easy to clean with a wet wipe or Clorox wipe also. No complaints from me.

This is my second purchase of this calculator. The first one I bought in 2019 and it died about 7 years later, as a tax professional I love the layout and feel of this calculator, since I use it on almost a daily basis. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if the quality of this unit is going to be the same. The new unit only weighs about half of what the old unit did, the screen instead of being dark with green numbers, is now backlit green with green numbers, the upper row of buttons (cost, tax, etc) are in a slightly different layout, and the power cord, instead of being permanently attached, is now a removable one.

I wish I would have found this little gem before I bought 3 other adding machines. I was able to return the others but this one is a keeper. I used my bosses the other day and had to have it. It is small but big enough for anyone that is 10key by touch. It has the bells and whistles that I need and it is not loud when I need to print. Definitely not the old type sound of a ribbon machine but for sure not noisy like the new roller machines. It’s a ton quieter than the last 3 I bought! Will be keeping this one.

I have been using calculators all my life from a Monroe, Canon and Sharp and still prefer the Sharp brand. What I’ve noticed about the EL-1801V is there are two variations of the same model. This Amazon choice DOES NOT HAVE THE DATE/TIME feature used to set the tax rate. This means this Amazon model also uses no replaceable battery on the underside to store tax rates. I see no need for the calendar and clock as they’re more of a pain to use so no big deal. The TAX RATE is easily stored by a sequence of C/CE presses in lieu of the calendar/clock button. This seems like a major improvement requiring fewer buttons to use setting the tax rate and not worrying about battery power (why require a battery when it’s plugged in the AC outlet in the first place)? This little gem has so many important features like a smaller footprint for desk use. Yes, the speed is not as fast as many others with ribbon ink but this IS a smaller unit. If you need printer speed, never opt for ink rollers because the character wheel has to spin for each character unlike a fixed character striking a ribbon as typewriters do providing lightning fast response time. The tactile keys are the best in its class, way better than many others. Only a modest touch will render a response unlike some requiring a harder depression. The spacing of the keys for a smaller unit is as good as the large units. The bright fluorescent display is appealing. It is extremely lightweight. In fact the box was so light I thought it was empty! The plastic is taut and durable (as with all Sharp calculators) and not pliable like the cheaper Casio models. The only setback I have is with the AVERAGE feature. In order to use AVG, you must engage the printer feature. Often to save ink, paper and wear and tear on the print mechanism, I prefer using only the display. On this machine, AVG will only work using the PRINT option despite the incorrect example in the instruction manual. From the top view unlike other calculators, the fingerboard area is actually WIDER whereas the printer section towards the back is narrower since this does not require an ink ribbon. Still the overall footprint is amazing!

This calculator worked great for the 10 months I've had it. Now --- and as several others have pointed out -- the printing motor does NOT stop running. It doesn't matter if you turn off printing, the motor keeps running. The calculator still functions, but the printing mechanism just keeps running, even when not printing. Did I mention it KEEPS RUNNING! Even when turned off!!! It only stops if unplugged. You can still use it, so long as you don't mind it sounding like a hair dryer even when NOT printing. This turned out to be a poor quality machine and a waste of money for having it less than a year. It's only warranted for 6 months. Do yoursel a favor and AVOID this calculator. UPDATE - I increased my rating to 4 stars. I called the company and told them about this issue. They responded by saying that they were aware of a small number of defective units with this problem and they sent me a brand new replacement. The new one is the exact same model but it now has an A/C adapter which you need to plug into the back of the calculator. The display is also a bit different in that it is more green and the numbers are larger. Not a big deal, and I'm happy with the end result.
