But I am not really much of a gardener - so maybe better gardeners prefer the angle - I am not sure
My wife likes it a lot and that is the important thing. She does not have the strength to cut through on regular shears and she was quite impressed with the ratcheting action. Both she and I found that the ratchet does not always seem to engage. Even with my larger hands, it did not appear that the handles were opening wide enough for the ratchet to engage in the next slot. So, at times we had to spread the handles open wider with both hands. Despite this, my wife likes it since she is at least able to use it. My other comment would be that the angle of the cutting blade should be a bit straighter - i.e. more in the same line as the handle. The bend makes it just a bit more difficult, I think, to slide the opening of the cutter over the branch. But I am not really much of a gardener - so maybe better gardeners prefer the angle - I am not sure!

I love ratchet pruners
I love ratchet pruners. Using a ratchet pruner does take some skill and you have to make sure you have it lined up correctly. When used correctly it will take less stress off your hand. I wish the lower handle was a little wider for my hand. I developed a blister on my knuckle when I used it the first time.

Pretty good wratchet
Pretty good wratchet for floral design, sharp cuts, easy to use. Sometimes requires a second go round, I think 1 of the 2 pairs I received was USED & therefore doesn't work As well as the new pair. They were sold as NEW however one pair was scratched and looked funny

You get what you pay for. My ratchet shears work fine, one of the problems is after cutting the lock latch engages. Thus you have to "unlock" them every time you cut. I'm using these for cutting small saplings, trimming around my treei stands those "green rippers roses".

I do like them very much
I have only had a chance to use my new pruning shears once so far. I do like them very much. They are comfortable to hold. The blade is sharp, and they seem to cut very well. The closure is also very easy to use. I'm sure I will enjoy using them.

Pretty good
They work well on branches, but not well on flower stems because of the way the two cutting surfaces come together. The other issue is the ratchet release/lock keeps locking while you are cutting. It is easy on tired hands.

Have only used them once, but they seem to cut branches up to 1 inch or so quite easily. It feels good in my size large man's hand, and the cutting action is smooth. The metal casting is a little rough, and blade seems thin and somewhat flimsy, but overall it works well.Update July 2015: the flimsiness of the blade has become a problem. As other reviewers reported, the blade frequently misaligns with the slot in the anvil and fails to cut through the branch. Doesn't seem like adjustment is possible, so cutting becomes a two handed operation, one to squeeze the handle, the other to guide the blade. This is unacceptable, but I haven't found a way to contact the manufacturer about it.

Big Help
This is a good item, the only problem I see is that sometimes, depending on the size of the cut you have to hold jaws shut so that it ratchets properly. Again this is some cuts depending on the diameter of branch to be cut. I have severe arthritis and this item helps considerably in my garden. Would buy again for the price and ease of use but hope it lasts my lifetime.
