Only making a review to vent out happiness

I didn’t realize it would also be able to control my Tv in addition to the Xbox. Super cool and helpful tool for any Xbox user. The ease of use allows for deeper immersion into whatever you’re watching. No longer will you have to navigate a menu just to hit pause and the like. You can rewind and play with more precision, yet less effort.Yes buy. Good buy. Money good spent here. Happy. Many laugh chuckle big.

    Five Months Later: Awesome Remote

*by B***S on Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2012*

My wife and I were recently married, and when we moved into our new home we realized my Xbox would become our central source of TV (and it has). Aside from my gaming, we use it for Netflix, Amazon Video, and HBO Go. Very quickly we realized the controllers were a little awkward to use for remotes day-in and day-out, so we looked into getting this. Just to be clear, we don't care about the Media Center like other reviewers, nor do we hook it up to work directly with our TV (though this remote can do that). We just wanted a simple remote for the Xbox.I have to say, after five months this piece delivers consistently well. We haven't seen loss in signal strength. The buttons have held up without getting janky. We are still on the same AAA batteries we originally put in. This thing is a breeze to use, especially since it has the Xbox home-button along with the four, colored buttons you'd see on a controller. While you may see $17-18 as a bit pricey for just an Xbox remote, this will prove to be a great investment if you use your Xbox for most of your TV-watching needs. Trust me, my wife isn't into gaming at all and she loves the remote. Also, if you're into aesthetics and have the new, black Xbox, this black and glossy remote will match it!

The key to unlocking your Xbox 360's inner media center

*by G***S on Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2012*

Let me start by saying that I've had my Xbox 360 for about 9 months, and I really don't use it much for games. I'm a Media Center geek, and I primarily bought the console to play with it's multimedia features. I have my Xbox sitting right on top of my Windows 7 Media Center HTPC, and initially, I was surprised that I could use my Media Center remote to work them both. Unfortunately, I unwittingly made a purchase on the Xbox while trying to surf my 7MC, so I turned off that setting right away. Since then, I've been awkwardly using my Xbox controller to navigate my media on the console. One thing I couldn't understand is why Microsoft wouldn't build some kind of volume control into the Xbox software. Then I saw the Xbox 360 Media Center remote. I was intrigued, especially when I read that you could program it to work with your TV's power, volume, channel, and input selector controls. The remote is sleek and and perfect compliment to the other Xbox hardware. It has a glowing green ring that appeared during TV setup, but I haven't seen it again since (probably a battery saver). Glossy black upper with matte black lower. It feels good in the hand and is pretty easy to use. There's TV and Xbox power, the signature Xbox Orb, A, B, X, and Y buttons. It also features Play/Pause, Seek, Fwd, Back, and Stop buttons. There's a 4-way control with a Select arranged in the center of a concave disc. The remote also features Media Center-friendly Record, Info, Guide, Live TV, and Back buttons, as well as Volume, Mute, Channel, and a 0-9 keypad. Being familiar with the Microsoft Media Center remote, I was a little annoyed that the 0-9 keys didn't have their text equivalents printed underneath. At the bottom of the remote is a pair of Display mode and Input selector buttons. The remote includes a sheet with basic setup instructions, but to find the specific codes for my TV model, I had to go to the Xbox support site. Setup was pretty easy, as the site offered only two possible codes for my TV (a Dynex). I was a little disappointed to find that neither of them allowed me to fully use the remote to select an input source. I managed to get the Input button to display my TV's input menu, but none of the keys seem to actually change the input source. Meh, I'll keep working on it.The remote really has opened up the media features of the Xbox for me and my family. My only criticism of the device is that it seems to have a pretty limited range. It works well enough from the couch, but you really have to point the remote right at the Xbox console for your input to register consistently. Across the room, forget about it. By contrast, my Media Center remote works just about anywhere, even in the adjacent room. But this remote is obviously designed with the Xbox in mind, and it helps you access many of its additional functions.
