The correct angle would be closer to 20 degrees than 45. If you are patient, you could do. But after you split or mar your flooring a few times, and have to dig out a few staples, you would probably run out and buy one if these. **Q: Why does it require a battery** A: A battery is not required. **Q: something is blocking the staples from fully loading.** A: If you cant see whats the issue - Tape apart the head, probably a piece of staple stuck.
