All Hype
I received this tank for Mothers day in 2014. I have only been able to grow a few sprouts in it and then they die. I have tried putting plants in it that were a little more mature and they only have died within a few weeks. My first fish died after a month and so far I have gone through three snails. The one I just bought two days ago died this morning. I am sure that the picture and the videos of this are staged with mature plants.I am now in the market for a REAL aquarium so my Betta wont die on me. If I don't do a change and a scrub down periodically it becomes filled with nasty poop debris caked in the rocks and it IS NOT, I repeat IS NOT breaking down for the scrawny plants that are managing to hang on to their few leaves.!!!! Piece of hyped up CR@# if you as me!!!

Be careful what you wish for.
This item was received as a gift. Though I was dying to have this in my house I have to say I started regretting that wish 3 months in. First, the air pump that comes with this product is HORRIBLE. Even with turning it off at night and rigging it with all the recommended settings the damn thing doesn't last more than a couple months. After one year (and 3 pumps) later I am scrapping this gift and bought a more maintainable system. If you're looking for a fun, low maintenance gift, don't buy this.

Does not deliver as promised
I have now maintained this style of AquaFarm for a year now and I'm convinced it does not deliver as promised. Most solid waste sinks to the bottom and does not get lifted into the root tray for biological breakdown. I still have to disassemble the tank once a month to clean the gravel which, given the design, is awkward and messy. I've noticed that the newer style of AquaFarm has a different pump system but I'm not convinced either style works as described.

Mostly as expected
I bought this for my son and he really enjoys it. Keeping the water and the sides clean has been a bit of a challenge and I haven't been too crazy about the plants that grow from the seeds that were included, but its a great science lesson and the beta is happy.
