They are feeling overwhelmed, stressed out, and alone. I'm using the principals in this book to help them regain control of the parts of their life that they can control and helping them see that some things are out of their control and must be accepted as such. It seems to be working and I've recommended the book to them. It doesn't give quick fixes. It teaches coping mechanisms which is what we all need. If you buy it for your kid, read it first. As a psychotherapist who works with tweens and teens I recommend this. Adolescents want to be heard, not necessarily 'treated' and this book names so much that could be going on inside of someone. It's not preachy nor does it offer any big fix. It can offer some hope but what I'm really finding is it offers an opportunity for my clients to expand on their emotions...which leads to exploration and some self discovery. If read by child and parent, it could open up a way to learn how your child is feeling and generate some conversations on that topic. If you're looking for an answer or quick fix this might not meet your needs.
