Perfect replacement for non working Xbox 360
Bought to replace Xbox 360 drive that had broken gears and laser wouldn't lift when tray closed. Did a board swap and it works perfectly now. Tested before board swap and worked fine, just wouldn't load Xbox games. Get this if you need a working DVD drive for Xbox 360, just be prepared to solder a bit and mess with 2 ribbon cables. Not too difficult. Package arrived fast and I am happy. 26$ total to fix an Xbox 360.

Great disc drive replacement for XB 360
Purchased this disc drive for my XB 360 which had “Open Tray” issue. The game console works great after installing this new disc drive. Almost all game discs can be read now. Several points to share: 1. make sure this model matches the old disc drive in your XB; 2. Use the tool kit for XB 360 to open the case; 3. You need to transfer the PCB from old disc drive to this new one, so some soldering work is needed. Three are 9 wires and 2 cables connecting to the PCB. It is recommended to mark all these wires and cables before removing them from the board.

Not as advertized
I purchased this unit for my 360 elite. Once installed it would only play dvds not games. I swapped the PCB from the old unit and it worked. The game played for about half an hour then cut out, now will only play dvds again. This product should not be listed for the xbox as it takes significant alterations to make it work, and then dose not last. Also note that there is a warranty void sicker directly over the ports you need to connect the unit. So just to install it you void the warranty. I email Nextec about this and I got a long winded response about how expensive it would be for them to evaluate there products for faults. No help there.

Fixed My Problem - But Not New
I'm giving this three stars because the description says the drives are new take offs, they definitely aren't. The one I got looked new on the outside, warranty stickers intact, but once I opened it that was obviously not the case. Definitely a used drive that had been worked on, wires were not in the factory routings and some sloppy soldering on the wire lands on the PCB.All that said, my Xbox is back up and running and that was my goal. I ended up just using the laser assembly out of this drive and put it into my original, a little less soldering.Truth be told I probably would have still paid the same price if this had been advertised as a used/refurb but the misleading ad is annoying.

Drive looked brand new!
Picked up this drive as a straight replacement for a faulty one in an Xbox 360, and it was a easy job. Replaced the PCB with the one on the malfunctioning drive, dropped it in, and it was good to go!The drive also looks brand new!

Perfect replacement.
This drive was exactly as advertised, and even with my modest soldering skills, I was able to quickly repair my ailing 360 solving all problems I was having reading discs.Be sure to double-check the model of the drive before you purchase and mark all wires on BOTH drives before you de-solder. I found that the old and the old drive required a higher temperature setting for the iron, which was odd. If you're unfamiliar, practice soldering ahead of time, and DON'T FORCE ANYTHING. Also, secure is more important than pretty.
