Works great, not perfect fit for Coleman 40 qt Cooler
Contrary to other feedback here - this motor does NOT fit the Coleman 40qt thermoelectric cooler (5640) 100% perfectly as the shafts on both sides are too long; which will cause both fans to rub on their covers; HOWEVER - with a little patience and a Dremel tool/cutting disk to shorten each shaft - one can make them fit properly so the fans don't rub and the housings/covers fit properly over them.Since Coleman no longer supplies this replacement motor (Thanks Coleman!?) and when they did it was $36 plus shipping (3 years ago) - I'd say the 'extra rigging' is well worth the slight hassle.Best I can tell - this motor is stronger than the original, though only time will tell. Will order a couple more for back-up as this is the only component that has died (3rd one) in 15+ years of use, actually ran one motor continuously for two summers in my basement (to give you an idea of possible life expectancy)

Coleman cooler motor
The motor works good after I resoilder it.One wire came off when I installed it on my cooler. The cooler cools inside of it, but not very cold. Why won't it get colder?

Doesn't work for the (my) older Igloo Koolmate 40
The motor is a standard hobby DC motor with good sized brushes and bushings (not bearings). It should work okay (for a while) in this application. An electric cooler for use while driving in a car or truck where there is already noise is probably the best use for it as it is not silent running like you would find in a brushless motor. I have an older Igloo Koolmte 40 and it was suggested in multiple posts on various sites that this motor would work as a replacement. It absolutely will not work on an older Igloo Koolmate 40. The motor shafts are the wrong size for both the inner and outer fans and the shaft is not long enough to reach through to the inside to even be able to jury rig something to work. Bottom line- It may work for other applications but there was no way to make it work for this electric cooler.

Better than Expected!
I have a Coleman Thermoelectric cooler that is about 15 years old and the original fan motor finally died. It only gets used a few times a year, but I hated to trash it just because I could not find a replacement motor. Took a chance on this one after reading some reviews that said it might work, probably would need to be modified. Actually, it worked with no modifications at all. The shafts are both longer than the original motor, but the inside fan still had good clearance after installation. The outside fan allows the shaft to go completely through the fan blade, so the longer shaft was not really a problem and did not have a clearance problem with the outside of the case. I could see how in some applications the shaft may need to be shortened (I planned on doing this with a Dremel if needed), but mine worked fine. Now, the fan is much louder than the original. It seems the increased noise is actually because it is running at a higher RPM. Not a problem for me, but if you were in close quarters with the cooler you would definitely know it. On the plus side, the cooler itself seems to work much better. It cools down much faster than it ever did with the original motor.I did not give it 5 stars because I am uncertain about longevity with the increased fan speed? But, definitely a good buy and saved me from spending a $100 plus on a new cooler!

Not satisfied
Although the motor was shipped in a timely matter;upon installing it we found both spindles to be about 3/16" too long. After shortening the spindles & reinstalling the fan blades, the motor was very noisy & the blades would not tighten & eventually came loose.

Works on other models too
We've really loved our Coleman plug-in cooler which we've had for seven years, but recently the fan motor stopped working. The motor that is advertised as fitting the majority of the Coleman thermoelectric coolers (like the 5615/ 5232/ 5640/ 5641/ 5642/ 5644 models) is no longer available anywhere so I thought I'd give this motor a try since it looks so much like the one in our cooler. Amazingly it works on our 5640 cooler so I'm guessing it will work on any of the models listed as fitting the old universal motor. It is a little louder than the old motor, but it works great and we didn't have to shell out $100+ dollars for a new cooler. Success!

Works well in my Igloo cooler
Like some others here I bought this to replace the motor in our older Igloo KoolMate 36. The physical fit worked perfectly; I had no problems with mounting or with fitting the fan blades to the motor. The only catch I found was the direction of motor rotation--the motor I received ran in the opposite direction from the original in my Igloo cooler. Since this is a D.C. motor I simply reversed the motor's electrical connections (red to black, black to red) the change the direction, and it works great! I have excellent air flow both inside and outside the cooler.

Roadpro replacement fan motors
All over the web people are saying this motor will replace the motors on the Igloo Koolmate 36 and similar units. This is a bunch of bull! The shafts are too short and the diameter is too small. There is no way to fasten the motor the the cooler. I spent hours trying to fabricate adapters to use the original fans, but no way could I find a way to adapter the different shaft sizes and get the fans to balance. It's better to trash the old units and buy a new cooler.
