Although the instructions state on page 2 of the manual not to block any of the ventilation openings there’s nothing about removing the protective film that covers the top and side vents. This stuff is very thick and secured with very aggressive glue. I didn’t notice it right away but after using the unit awhile I noticed it was getting rather warm. Upon inspection I noticed the film. It took a fair amount of work “careful” probing with a box cutter to remove it.Second part. I bought this converter to record over the air TV shows. I actually ended up buying 2 different brands of converters and 2 different USB external HD’s. After much frustration and $$$. This is what I found. Although the instructions say to use 2-3 tb external drive’s, they won’t work. Every time I formatted one and tried to use it, it would run for 1-2 minutes and shut off. When I checked it was no longer formatted. Anyway I found that Micro Center “64GB” or “128GB” purple or yellow super speed 3.0 flash drives work fine without any formatting. Also I found that the “Dorypal” 1tb 3.0 flash drive/thumb drive works well but needs formatting the first time.

After reading the positive and negative feedback for this converter I decided to give it a try anyway. My mistake. After a month I'm returning it for refund. I live in a Chicago suburb, approximately 20 miles due west of the city. I use an inside antenna to pickup OTA channels. The unit did a great job scanning and finding all 80. For the first two weeks or so, the unit worked fine, recording all the programs I'd scheduled. But over time, things got worse. I found that the remote 'eats' batteries. In less than a month I changed them twice. All of a sudden, the internal clock, set to the Central time zone, set to Eastern time, even though it showed it was set to Central. In the past week, recordings actually started 15 - 30 minutes after the program actually began. There were times when the unit would turn itself on to start a recording and not shut down afterward. I'd check the USB drive and nothing was recorded. I was careful to select record and not view. The user guide is of little or no help. You'll need a magnifying glass to read it. The remote has to be pointed directly at the box for it to work. The buttons are too small, for me, and not very sensitive. I rated it a 2 because the scanner did manage to find 80 channels and the picture quality was pretty good. I am an AT&T customer. Their idea of local channels is limited to 4 - 5. Neither The CW nor PBS are included in their local package. We enjoy watching programs from both stations, which we can only get over-the-air. This item suited our purposes well for a few weeks until it started to 'go south'. I encountered other minor annoyance and problems, which I won't list here, since they are show up in other feedback. I've returned it for a refund.

I am a retired widow. I spend a lot of time watching TV. As I am a widow I need to work part time to make ends meet. I have been looking forward to the NFL season but I work Fri, Sat, and Sun. So no football. I purchased this device so I could record Sat college and Sun pro football games. I haven't had time to test it out on those yet but did record some shows to see how it worked. I was worried because one reviewer said a USB memory device didn't work for him. I purchased the $7.99 64GB device and it works really well. I disconnected the cable from an old dish device and hooked a decades old pair of rabbit ears to it and I get 42 channels. Who needs cable..I added Philo TV for $20 and I get 56 cable channels and 42 local channels can't beat that. Thank you again Amazon the world is a better place with you in it .....

After formatting and setting up time recording, it will not record scheduled programming to external hard drive. Every time you turn off the power with the power button, the hard drive is no longer recognized. I have to unplug the hard drive from the USB port reconnect it and then it recognizes the hard drive. I purchased the recommended hard drive for this unit, Formatted the hard drive, and it worked the first time.

I got this box because Dish network can't stop arguing with networks and keep shutting off channels. It works ok. The picture quality is a little less and I can't get full screen. I have tried through the TV menu and the converter menu and just get a big square in the middle of the tv. Without the box I get great clear picture from my antennae, but the box does degrade it after putting it on. The user interface is a little confusing, but there was a learning curve I got through. Overall, it is nice to have an option when Dish disconnects channels.

Got one of these a few months ago. Great little device for recording from the digital antenna. Well, 3 weeks ago the remote broke. I contacted Exuby on their web site and explained the problem. They said they’d send a replacement. I honestly did not expect to get one but hey, in less than a week I got one. Unfortunately it was a different remote and didn’t work. Contacted them again and in 4 days had the right one (after sending a photo of the one that broke). Despite the low cost of this device it is amazing, as is the customer service. I highly recommend this item. And as a caveat, the format this records on to usb will play on a smart tv’s USB port.

I enjoy recording my favorite NFL games and then watching them on playback WHILE the game is still recording. This way I can skip commercials and get through the game faster. My old cable DVR let me do this with ease, but this unit must finish the recording first before you can play it back. I was unaware of this before purchase and therefore give it only 3 stars.

I don’t recommend this product. I have purchase2 of these in two years time. I want a refund but know they won’t reimburse me.

L'appareil fonctionnait bien mais pour une raison inconnue il a cessé de fonctionner sans avertissement, je ne peux donc l'évaluer très positivement.J'ai voulu en ravoir un autre semblable mais ce n'était pas faisable, Amazon ne pouvait que me rembourser mon argent. J'ai donc acheté un autre produit très semblable.Pour charger les postes c'était très bien. L'enregistrement aussi. Tout allait bien.La manette gagnerait à être améliorée car les touches les plus utilisées ne sont pas les plus valorisées. Le temps que cela a fonctionné et pour le prix c'était très bien.

Item work ok but because you cant set the time on the unit you cannot record properly.

I PURCHASED THIS ITEM BECAUSE I THOUGHT I WOULD GET MORE CHANNELS WITH MY ANTENNA AFTER EVERYTHING WENT DIGITAL. THAT THEORY DIDNT WORK.....I GOT THE SAME 5 CHANNELS .I USED TO GET MORE TILL THEY WENT DIGITAL.MAYBE THEIRS A DIGITAL ANTENNA YOU CAN BUY INSTEAD...DONT KNOW IF THAT WILL HELP EITHER.
