I had a similar product in my house for many years, and it is still in great shape. No problem at all to support a child's weight, even an adult's, though at present I don't know what the weight limit is on these stools. I actually am using mine to elevate a rather hefty pair of vintage speakers, and they are perfect for this application and look great. I attached a picture so you can see, though my image was rotated by this application. Hopefully the reviewers of my review will rotate it so appears right side up.
