I love the ease of teaching the program however, I wish there were more visuals and/or activity ideas for the kids as well as a digital download of some lessons, videos, etc. to go along with the program

Need resources
I like the curriculum, but no resources available. I went to the website and the resources are limited. It would be nice to get a code to access the handouts online and other resources to help teach the lessons. With that said, it is a great curriculum to help students learn mindfulness and kids do enjoy.

Great for summer!
I got this curriculum just for the summer to prevent backslide of my rising 1st graders skills. I thought I'd get some ideas to couple with other basic workbooks I got. I am only a few lessons in, but I love the way it breaks down each lesson and provides ideas for hands-on work and thoughtful discussion. I must admit that I feel like I am learning just as much as my son about self-control and mindfulness. The huge poster of the brain is a big hit too!I will update this once we finish.

Awareness brings magic—a true Tao of Teaching
Better than all the classroom management books in existence combined. Add these practices and kids are transformed. Best thing I’ve come across in 15 years of teaching.

Excellent Program!
I am a second grade teacher with 27 wonderful years of experience. This is by far one of the most intelligently written programs I have seen to aid in the social and emotional development of children. I piloted the program this year and found the lessons and activities engaging for the students, and easy to implement for the teacher. The children learned so much about their brains, the way they think and process, and how to optimize the use of their brains and senses. I taught the program right before standardized state testing, and it greatly helped the students focus and feel calm during a stressful two weeks. I also incorporated the lessons as part of our community service unit. It fit in beautifully! I think all students, grade K-12, would benefit from the simple, yet powerful, ideas and skills put forth by the MindUp creators. The only suggestion I would have is to actually expand the lessons to be more step-by-step, with lists of materials to have ready. It took quite a bit of work to plan out, prepare and script out what I was going to teach. I would suggest the authors look to a program like Second Step or FOSS to make the program more teacher-friendly and to make sure all suggested resources are readily available (many books are out of print). Perhaps online teacher videos such as FOSS has would be beneficial?Nevertheless, these are minor flaws. The $25 I spent for the book made it the cheapest, best professional program I have ever purchased! I HIGHLY recommend it to all teachers concerned about the development of the whole child. BRAVO!

Good book but not what I expected
I didn't read much of the book. It was not what I expected. Thought it had a curriculum with questions. Good book for learning strategies though.

Great book with one flaw...
I have been using this curriculum in a 2nd and 3rd grade classroom. I have to say I really like it, there are a lot of activities to choose from. My only criticism is that the language used to describe the lessons and the brain science/research behind the activities is difficult for this age group to grasp.

This is a great book and very much in line with current THRIVE approach sweeping the UK. Well put together, user friendly and based on brain development. However, I have been unable to download additional resources from the scholastic web link given in the kindle edition as link appears to have been moved so perhaps ordering a hard copy is a better option for anyone wanting to use strategies which can then simply be printed off. I have been in touch with Scholastic and the Hawn Foundation regarding this but not much luck as yet. Also, note that story book recommendations to read with children in support of strategies are all American ( so style of writing perhaps a little different) and have to be delivered from the States (which isn't really a problem but takes a little longer). A good book helping to put theory into practice.

I highly recommend it for grades 1 and 2
This curriculum is definitely NOT geared to a pre-K setting, and making it work in my Kindergarten class is also a bit of a stretch (and a lot of work to prepare extra visual materials and play-based activities). It is, however a solid curriculum for children who are already beginning to read and write independently. I highly recommend it for grades 1 and 2.

Admittedly I'm a brain nerd, I've been really interested in my own (brain, that is) and studying at an undergrad and to a lesser extent graduate level. But this makes the concept of the brain accessible and understandable, and when you have well-known entrepreneurs such as Dean Kramen (First Robotics) talking about the need for kids to learn HOW they learn, they really can approach this through MindUP. The school board that patiently employs me has begun to use this in pilot applications, and I expect it won't be long before this is a common language at all levels of learning. These are worth every penny. Get on it!

This program is a perfect fit for all classrooms
This program is a perfect fit for all classrooms. It teaches the students about their brain, techniques for self-regulation, and provides well laid out lessons that are manageable to fit into regular programming. My students always enjoy our MindUp lessons and can be seen applying strategies practiced within this curriculum.
