Seem like just the thing, but quality is so poor they're not usable if you need them.
These seemed like the perfect price to do a bulk project and have kids add these to travel and scout kits for small emergencies. That is, until you actually open one and try to use it. The price is so cheap because the needle is a poor attempt to sharpen a steel wire and stamp an eye into it for sewing, and the eye of the needle was so tiny that even trying to use a tool from the home sewing kit to help thread it, it was too small to actually get the thread through. No way you could have actually used it on the road if you needed it. The thread was also really poorly made. Also, in about 10% of the kits, the cheaply constructed safety pin didn't make it through the machine correctly, and it's just a mangled piece of wire with no end cap in place to close the pin. Those I could have just thrown away for the price and still been satisfied, but the lack of a functional needle rendered the entire kit useless. Too bad, because the size was exactly what I was looking for, and didn't want a larger size kit for some of the better quality ones on sale. What I ended up doing was buying a package of real sewing needles at the craft store, and a box of normal quality safety pins, and just replacing them in the kits I wanted to hand out. Next time, we'll just make a "kit night" at a scout meeting with the supplies (cardboard, thread spools, safety pins, needles, buttons, and some small craft ziploc bags) and make our own. It'll cost a buck or two more, but it'll actually be useful. So save your money on this one, and either buy a better quality kit if you can afford the space for one of the slightly larger ones, or build your own kit at home - it's as easy as it looks in the picture for what they give you.

Perfect!
I purchased these little kits for my 4th graders to tuck into their Mother's Day cards this year. The packets are small, flat, and perfect for tucking into a wallet, pocket, or make-up pouch, also. Each sewing kit is contained in a clear plastic envelope. Very handy and a bargain.
