There was also a lot of information and history about beer that I found interesting and hadn't known. This is a great book if you're looking for an all-encompassing reference about beer including beer history, ingredients, making your first batch, troubleshooting techniques, and some great sounding recipes. Excellently written, the material is clearly presented, and a highly engaging and enjoyable read. Most important though is that will ***inspire you*** to brew some great beer. I thought at first to give it only four stars since I would have liked a little more depth, but after buying John Palmer's How to Brew (an excellent book in it's own right), I realized that a book greatly technical detailing the chemistry and biology of brewing is daunting, and will discourage the first time brewer. You will find here all that you need to know, and I am sure that there is some good practical info for those who have brewed before too. My first batch using a combination of malt extract and steeped grains - was quite impressive, and has already inspired some relatives into brewing their own.
