The Solid Mount for Mounting Grab Bars (1 Pair)

These mounts are perfect for what they are intended, but the price is way more than it should be, I think. That's the reason for the 4 stars.

I am a skilled tadesman and I found the instructions were easy to follow and the installation was easy. Accurately locating the studs in the wall is critical and the most time consuming part of the installation. My recommendation is to use a good stud finder and then verify the stud locations by drilling small holes in the drywall above the fiberglass surround to ensure you have found the center of the studs. These holes can easily be filled and touched up and the extra time outweighs the possiblity of drilling a large hole in your tub surround in wrong location. After findng the center of the studs, use a long level placed vertically to transfer the center line of the studs down the wall and inside the fiberglass surround. Another trick is when using a hole saw to cut through soft materials such as the fiberglass surround, run the drill and hole saw in reverse. It will still cut a nice clean hole, but will not catch or bind on the fiberglass and tear or crack it. My total installation time was about 45 minutes and the kit provided a nice mount for the grab bar. I would recommend and buy this product again.

Unfortunately, this is the best product on the market for mounting grab bars to the studs behind a fiberglass shower wall. The grab bar does feel pretty solid and the installation was straightforward. My complaints revolve around the cheap plastic construction of the sold mount hardware. Even though the lag bolt screws directly into the stud, the grab bar is just screwed into the cheap plastic flange of the sold mount hardware. Also, the round mounting flange does not have a thin piece of sheet metal inside the plastic like some reviews have stated. It is just plastic.This is a good idea, and it is apparently the best thing out there right now, but for the price that you pay, you should get something better than cheap plastic.

I generally don't write reviews unless I feel the product is well worth it. I purchased this kit to install bars in my mothers one piece shower enclosure. My mom recently had back surgery and was in rehab while I did the install.When I first looked at the shower enclosure, I said theres no way of installing these bars in this shower, but someone must make a kit to do the install. I found this kit while surfing the internet. Install is easy, just make sure you have all your measurements exact. Once you make the initial 2" hole in the enclosure, the rest is super easy. I was able to install grab bars and they are rock solid.

Have a suuound plastic shower with air behind shower liner before the dry wall. I needed to add grab bars for 92 year old mother and wanted them to be secure. I was able to locate studs and was able to put in a grab bar that mounted to stud and is sturdy and secure. My mother feels so much more secure in shower now. I ended up calling around the ends just to make sure there would’ve no water but not sure necessary. Worked very well. Nice to have an option for mounting a grab bar to a plastic wall. Thank you

Great method but need more depth from the fiberglass to the studs. Had to make longer spacers out of steel tubing

This is the product that you need if you have a fiberglass shower or tub surround and need to install a grab bar. All the parts are included and the directions are easy to follow. You will need a stud finder, 2" hole saw, drill, several different dill bits, a long level, silicone caulking and a grab bar. The most difficult part of the install is locating the studs and then getting the courage to drill into the fiberglass. My first install took three hours of which the first hour was stud locating, measuring and remeasuring! I would rate this install at the advanced handyman level.

This is an excellent product and great idea that secures the grab bar to a wood stud. However, make sure your measurements are accurate so the mounting plate is perfectly lined up with the mounting plate of the grab bar. If it isn’t the cover plate for the grab bar won’t seat properly. I removed an 1/8” of the circumference off the plastic mounting plate so the grab bar cover plate would seat properly. Great product, would have been 5 stars except for the adjustment I made.
