A good book. Some photo's could do with updating but that is the only minus. All good content

Comprehensive, but the author is more into comfort than simplicity
Rather comprehensive, though not as detailed as his other books. Also, in contrast with Larry Pardey, Mr. Calder seems to be more prone to seduction by the comforts of technology as time goes by.

so much valuable information.....
Calder has written a superb authoritative book that is essential reading before and during any cruising venture, especially offshore. I like his style of writing and rate the information dispensed 10/10. I have to agree however with the other review about the pictures. they are poor quality and b&w and I find it difficult to locate items on them described in the text beside. Quality colour pictures and diagrams would make this 5 star.

Boatowners Bible by Nigel Calder
A really good read full of loads of interesting and usefull stuff. Although aimed at an ocean going audience there is a lot here of great relevance for us coastal sailors, and I would thoroughly recommend it.Would benefit from a bit of colour in both illustrations and pictures and is a little americanised in places and a UK version in colour would really take some beating.

Comprehensive, clear, understandable
Well, I agree with all those other posts about this book. It's a great book, covering a wide variety of topics in a technical but understandable fashion.Beware though, it is a CRUISING manual, so it's focussed on people wanting to go offshore for longer periods of time (so not really day/weekend/holiday sailors).Have fun with it !Meindert[...][...]
