Quiltmaking meets great Stories
The Civil War Sewing Circle book by Kathleen Tracy deserves a full 5 stars from me. I think the stories and photos are my favorite part and the quilts are almost a bonus to the tales.Reading the other reviews I notice that the main reason people rated the book low is because they thought there were full sized quilt patterns in the book not doll or mini quilts. I was kind of puzzled as when you read the info about the book it is very clear that the quilts are mostly small sized. Frankly if you want a bigger quilt then just make more blocks or do some research on how to make the blocks larger and problem solved.I am to a point where making bed sized quilts isn't a priority and I was very glad to be able to make these little versions of civil war inspired quilts using my stash of 19th century repro fat quarters. If you enjoy discovering the history of "everyday people" during a very difficult time in our nation's history I think you will enjoy this book. Just don't expect to find a book full of bed sized patterns and all will be well.

Fantastic quilt patterns in this book.
Plenty of classic patterns in the book. Easy to intermediate. Planning to make most of them.

Step back in time with The Civil War Sewing Circle by Kathleen Tracy
Kathleen Tracy has the unique ability to transport you back in time as you read her books and complete her projects. Several doll quilts, wall hangings, a letter pocket and a soldier's cot quilt are some of the projects you will love making - sixteen projects in all. There's even some wool applique! Kathleen's fabric choices are stunning and you will be touched as you read the letters from the civil war era and about the ladies and their sewing circles. My favorite project is the Hexagon Flowers Doll Quilt. I learned how to make hexies and complete a small project to add to my collection of historical reproduction mini quilts. A definite favorite and must have for anyone who loves to make historical projects.

This book is great!
I received my copy of Kathleen's book yesterday and was unable to look through it until midnight. After "taking a moment to glance through it just a tiny bit", when I looked back at the clock I found it was already 1:00am. I had "been lost" in this book for an hour!!! Now that tells you what a great book this is for as tired as I was, I could not put it down. I can't wait until I can get back to this book today. It has great historical information & pictures, great quilt patterns (!!!!!), wonderful printing and layout -- good color throughout which helps those of us who look for guidance in color choices for our quilts, just an all around fabulous book. Buy it, you won't be sorry!!! Carol in Mid-Mich :))

Civil War Quilts
This book has easy to follow directions for quilts and very nice pictures of the quilts. The book enables you to view a variety of Civil War reproduction fabrics, which is helpful if you want your quilts to be true to the time period. It also contains facts about the Civil War and some good historical pictures. There are patterns for 13 quilts of various sizes and several sewing accessories. The bibliography lists other references that will provide more information about the Civil War.

LOVE this book!
This book is really special. It has original photographs and letters. The little quilts are beautiful. I want to make every one. There are a few small projects, like a "letter envelope", to hold special letters. I adapted it and made an iPhone cover for myself and my daughter. I'm making the paper pieced hexagon quilt doll quilt shown on the cover. I have never tried paper piecing, thought it was too involved for me, but Kathleen's instructions make even a beginner look like a pro.I anxiously awaited the release of this book and was not disappointed, I don't think you would be either.

Quilts and history
I loved this book. The role quilts played in our civil war was very interesting. I learned a lot how the women were proactive in taking care of the comfort needs of our soldiers, north or south. Also the thoughts of the family and soldiers on the war and their sacrifice. The title of the book tells what is in the book. Title is important.

Kathleen Tracy has published another excellent book. I love the mix of quilts
Kathleen Tracy has published another excellent book. I love the mix of quilts, history and tips. Although there are quilts of all sizes and a couple of small projects made in reproduction fabric you could easy use 'modern style' fabric. I just love repro fabric. Any book by Kathleen is a winner as far as I am concerned. There are lots of tips and quilting basics and it is a joy to find the history behind the quilts.

bastante bien
me ha gustado bastante. Tiene quilts bonitos para hacer, pero me parecen pocos. Se queda quizás, en mi opinión un poco escaso.
