Portraits seem so real they are breathing. Surprised the Catholic Church didn't try to burn Velasquez at the stake for witchcraft.

Amazing book. Plenty if photos of up close details of his paintings. The scholarship is great, a world renowned expert on Velázquez. The book itself, as an object, it’s spotless, great quality, as usual from Taschen. If you like Velázquez, don’t even hesitate to get this.

I'm a huge Velazquez fan so a giant book of his work by Taschen was a no brainer. Taschen deserves serious credit for providing a valuable resource to serious artists who are looking to study this amazing painter's techniques. One of the great advantages (and reasons) for traveling to a museum such as a the Prado (which I've had the fortune to visit) is to get up close to the paintings; to see the brushwork, the colors, and how the artist achieved his effects. This book allows you the opportunity that only a museum visit would afford, by providing high quality, large reproductions, that reveal much more about the painting than you would be able to glean from the usual small images that books usually provide. Studying masters' paintings is one of the best way of improving as an artist and this book is an invaluable resource for anyone who is striving to achieve mastery in portraiture. It may sound like I'm overselling this book, Velazquez is an easy sell after all, but this book is well worth the money.

Gorgeous eye candy from one of the greatest painters of all time! I love to curl up on the couch and pore over these paintings. Of course, I'd rather see them in person, but since I can't, this book is a great substitute.

Quick delivery.If you're a serious painter and you're nowhere near The Prado or The National Gallery in London you probably want this book: Best color reproductions in any monograph on Velazquez that I've seen ( and I have most of them). Also huge details and lot's of them. It's all his paintings. The thing is massive so you can clearly see the paint handling. The text seems pretty thorough if you care about that kind of thing.5 stars easy. Totally worth the cost.

Its heavier than I though but the quality is good. Cause im shipping oversea to asian so some small part was mess up ( like the border that sticks by glue did fall out abit ) but generally its great

I already own a book by the author on Velasquez but it is quite old and I felt that a more modern Taschen book would have better quality prints-It does and concentrates on details of various paintings which really illuminate the artist.The copy I purchased is an ex library book in very good condition. Very informative and interesting text.

Very happy with this book. Other than the fact that it is so huge and very heavy to handle, it is absolutely fantastic.
