Jimmy's Blues and Other Poems

As a college instructor in Literature and Creative Writing I have concluded that James Baldwin was one of the best representatives in the literature of our country. His raw honesty and great soul send the reader searching for his own truth. The beauty of the way he puts words side by side is like music or paintings one lingers over. His place in the 20th century puts him in the top 5 writers. The beauty of Jimmy's Blues is awesome and can only be taken a page or two at a time. One reflects and understands. His hand touches ours. His brilliance is almost frightening. He knows us. He is humble in that knowledge and willing to share it. Don't miss this one.

Great collection of poems by the incomparable James Baldwin. If you thought he only wrote magnificent novels, you will enjoy this collection. A good addition to any literary person's library.

This book of pems by my hero give and excellent sample of this great man's work-Excellent I high recommend it.

Philosophical poet of people.

It was a gift for my daughter-in-law, so don't know yet how she liked it.

As with all Baldwin's writing, Jimmy's Blues is a master class, sublime, raw, eloquent and heartfelt

I've only read 2 of Baldwins novels and have been itching to read more. Well online book shopping I ran across Jimmy's Blues and Other Poems and had to get it. I'm so glad I did. IT's a short book of poems but very powerful and full of universal meaning. It's a book full of surprises for Baldwin lovers and not a bad place to start for people that find poetry difficult to understand. This one will renew your faith in poetry.

It is a lot inspiring and very much moving. It is Baldwin at its simplest, that is best!

Bit disappointed with James Baldwin's poetry. There's a few nice lines here and there and one or two decent enough pieces, but none of it really leapt off the page for me. This is his only collection too, as I understand. Still, it's clearly all down to personal taste, but I think i'd like to remember the guy for his wit and prose skills.
