Our latest fav
This is an absolutely beautiful book by Audrey Penn--both from the standpoint of the story and the illustrations. The pictures are engaging and realistic (no cartoon animals here). My son and I talk about all of the different forest animals and each of their different defense mechanisms. The story is about accepting both oneself and others regardless of differences. It is a wonderful message and teaches children about nature and ecology too. Bravo.

Charming story!
I purchased the book as a gift for my daughter who has autism. She just loves skunks. We read it together and she loved the story. I found it to be very charming.

Perfect for the Kid Who's Different
Great story with gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous illustrations. I was familiar with Mrs. Penn's "Kissing Hand" book, so was excited to see she'd written a story about a skunk. Lovely pictures and even better story about a misunderstood skunk. Perfect for the skunk lover or any kid who has ever felt different.

Being different is ok!
Penn writes another good book. This time it is about a little skunk who is self-conscious because he stinks. But another skunk explains that his scent has a purpose (protection from predators) and not to be ashamed because he is "different" than other animals. They too have their own peculiarities. Great book for teaching tolerance of others and being comfortable/confident with yourself.

Happy
Book was very hard to find. Good condition when arrived. It was a gift for an adult that had a child and was unable to find her original edition.
