One of the few regrets that I have had is that through my years of education that I have never truly delved into the subject of stoicism. That's why it was so refreshing to come across Stoicism: Leadership, Discipline, Mindset, Wisdom and Spiritual Exercises of the virtuous Stoic Ethics and have a nice solid grasp of the subject. The book is written by George Tanner and is a nice way for anyone curious about the subject to learn about it without having to take a college course. Stoicism is an ancient Greek philosophy that was later adopted by the Romans as a way of living. During those times of Greece, religion and philosophy went hand and hand so stoicism was not just a subject that people discussed but an ideology that they followed. While the philosophy is quite complicated, the book does give an excellent concise definition and explanation.

Loved it!
Of all the Philosophies, Stoicism is probably among the most necessary but also one of the hardest to practice in times of stress. The philosophy began by Zeno of Citium taught that virtue was based on knowledge and wisdom could be obtained by Reason, and that it's practitioners should withstand pain, pleasure, and fortune.Nowadays people are described as having a stoic personality when they endure hardship without expressing much outward emotion. They are not always incapable of feeling. They just prefer not to display it. Instead they just keep going.Jimmie Powell added to Stoicism by creating this book of meditations that put this ancient philosophy into a modern setting. The meditations are very simple, filled with common sense advice, and free of flowery language. While the meditations seem easy, stoicism is a complex mindset to manage because it runs contrary to human nature. Humans are emotional complicated beings and advice that suggests to repress those emotions can be very difficult to heed. Advice like telling someone not to despair after a friend dies can backfire and leave the Reader feel like they are being insulted even when they are aware Powell is trying to help.Powell's book gives an ancient philosophy a modern twist. While it can be difficult to master, no one can deny that it is sorely needed.

Beginner's Guide to Stoic Principles
Since college, I have never been a fan of philosophy. When posed with, “Why are we here?” My inevitable response has always been, “We are. Why waste time asking why? Go do something.” And I did. Recent enforced leisure time has had me re-reading the classics, and I decided to take some of my downtimes to work this into my virtual pile of books to read. I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it.

Interesting imprint about Stoicism and Philosophy.
An excellent concise definition and explanation. A Complete Guide to Stoicism does an excellent job of explaining the philosophy and history of Stoicism. I walked away from the book feeling enlightened and intrigued by the philosophy. It covers the origins of stoicism thousands of years back, the circumstances that produced it, and some of the famous stoics. overall it is deeply moving, engaging and soul touching the book. I enjoyed it very much.

lovely reading
The many benefits of Stoic practice and thought, (some scientifically proven) are listed in an easy to read and easy to get excited about format. One of the suggestions in the book that resonated deeply with me was the strongly worded recommendation to read as extensively possible on the subject to understand the views of each of the early Stoics. The author writes that this will help with adopting/adapting the philosophy to lead a better life.

Beginner guide
This Stoicism book is especially enlightening, it has an unprecedented substance. This book tells me the best way to live better like the Stoic way of life. There is a lot to consider and practice, anyway even as a beginner it has passed on extended harmony to my life. I have accomplished an impressive measure in my life starting late with the guide of unemotional, and plan to scrutinize more books from this essayist again.

Useless
I am not sure who edited this book, but the grammar and syntax is equivalent to what a 10-yr old might produce. The book's content is just lame - nothing that same 10 year old doesn't already know. Don't waste your money.

Great guide for going stoic!
I can still recall the first time I was introduced to Stoicism. I savored this by reading a little each day and when I got to the end, started reading it again. Very clearly written. Good format with references to whether you are a new or Stoic, I think you will enjoy it. I few d this book to be very informative and gave me good insight into modern Stoicism. I Highly recommend.
