Handpan Drums 50cm Handpan Drums are new melodic percussive instruments invented less than 20 years ago. Handpans were invented in Bern, Switzerland and consists of 2 curved shells of steel, glued together and painstakingly tuned into a musical scale. The handpan is played by hand. DESCRIPTION 50cm Handpan This 9 Note Handpan in G scale is hand crafted and uses all the notes of the scale giving it a traditional sound and feel. The two octave range of 9 notes from A-G is abundant for extensive harmonic and melodic inventions. Standard Handpans typically have a smaller diameter, however, this hand pan has a slightly larger diameter of 50cm which means the notes are not only more horizontal, but also more spread out. This allows for a deeper bass note sound. The smooth coating makes it very comfortable to play and feel while it weighs only 7kg, making it very easy to carry. This 50cm Handpan comes with its own shoulder carry case and a protective cover. All 9 notes of the Handpan have a lovely resonance but it is also possible for players to use the other surfaces of the drum and make some other harmonics, such as snare and hi-hat like sounds. The head cover can also be used to make percussive sounds. All in all, the Handpan is a beautiful instrument capable of enchanting all players and listeners. Please note: Players are advised to only use their hands when playing these instruments as excessive force or beaters can potentially cause damage.
