From Brianna Wiest — international bestselling author with millions of copies sold, featured on TODAY, Oprah Daily, Forbes, Harper's Bazaar, and Psychology Today, and one of the most widely-read voices in personal development of the last decade. 101 Essays That Will Change The Way You Think is the book that started it all — first published in 2016, it has become one of the great perennial bestsellers of the social media era, spreading not through launch campaigns but through the oldest mechanism in publishing: one person finishing it and pressing it into the hands of everyone they know. This is not the kind of book you read straight through and set down. It is the kind you keep. 101 Essays is a collection of Wiest's most beloved and widely-read pieces of writing, assembled into a single volume that covers the full terrain of what it means to think well and live consciously. The pieces range across purpose, passion, happiness, cognitive bias, emotional intelligence, shadow psychology, relationships, solitude, creativity, daily routine, and the gap between what we think we want and what we actually need. Some were read by millions of people before they were ever collected here. Others have never appeared anywhere else. What unifies them is not a single thesis but a sensibility: that most of our suffering comes not from our circumstances but from the way we've been taught to interpret them — and that changing the way we think is the most powerful and underrated form of self-improvement available to us. Wiest's writing is philosophical without being academic, practical without being reductive, and consistently surprising in the way it approaches familiar problems from angles you weren't expecting. Specific pieces include: why you should pursue purpose over passion (and why the passion advice is actively misleading), why embracing negative thinking leads to greater resilience and clarity than toxic positivity, why daily routine is a form of wisdom rather than a creative constraint, and how to identify the cognitive biases that are quietly constructing the reality you experience as your life. The format — short, self-contained, dip-in — means it rewards being read in any order, returned to repeatedly, and opened at random on difficult days. Now translated into 40+ languages across six continents, including Zulu, Yoruba, Kiswahili, Vietnamese, Marathi, and Ukrainian — a reach that speaks to something genuinely universal in what Wiest is doing here. Perfect for readers who: Are intellectually curious about why they think and feel the way they do — not just seeking comfort but seeking understanding Found The Mountain Is You and want to go deeper into Wiest's broader philosophical universe Are coming from authors like Brené Brown, Don Miguel Ruiz, Mark Manson, or Ryan Holiday and looking for a natural next step Want a book they can return to over years — not a one-read fix but a long-term thinking companion Discovered it on BookTok, saw it on someone's shelf, or received it as a gift and want to understand why it keeps spreading A Thought Catalog Books imprint. The natural starting point for new Wiest readers and the intellectual foundation beneath everything she has written since. Readers who finish this book and want to go deeper on the specific question of self-sabotage will find the next step in The Mountain Is You . Review: Wonderful present - I've bought 3 of these books so far. 1 for me and 2 for my friends birthdays. I'm still yet to finish the book - even though I bought it ages ago. I think the book is best in paperback rather than Kindle version, makes easier reading to flip and add notes and be a visible reminder to read. Each chapter is a little essay of thoughts and ideas and I think they're all wonderful and thought provoking. I just finished chapter 36 - why you should thank the people who have hurt you most in life. And it was eye-opening. I think a lot of go through life feeling stuck and not sure where we're headed, but this book has shown me how much I have changed and accomplished and how proud of myself I should be. I like to give this book as a present because it's such a wonderful book to just flip through and read occasionally. You don't need to read it all in one go, you don't have to read every chapter. Some will speak more to you than others - depending on what I'm struggling with I like that I can find a chapter that will help settle my mind and allow me to recenter. Highly recommend Review: Must read - I love this book, it provides opportunities for self reflection and insight as well as considering taking accountability and responsibility.

Wonderful insights into positive thinking
It does what it says on the tin, or in this case, in the title. How to recognise when my thought patterns are a dead end and how, and why, to think positively. Often I recall the feelings from a part of the book but not the detail explanation or insight that led to the feelings. It would be lovely to have a keyword index to help me find and reinforce poorly remembered passages. The table of contents is simply insufficient for this purpose. Otherwise a 5 star review.

Good quality book but the font is difficult to read
Well-written book which contain a range of short and long essays which cover a range of issues including relationships, habits, productivity, emotional intelligence, love and healing. A good book to reach for as you can read a couple of essays each day - no commitment. There are some ideas I don't agree with but it keeps you consciously thinking, pondering about life and questioning your current mindset. Only downside is the font which is difficult to read and quite thin. I'm a fast reader but the font choice does slow me down. If you have difficulty with your sight perhaps the kindle version maybe better as you can zoom in.

OK
This book is ok, but I am finding it very repetitive in nature. I’ve only read 25 essays at random so far but I feel like I have read both the same advice multiple times, and (oddly) conflicting advice. The essays are not ground breaking or novel, much is inspired from various great thinkers over the ages. Whilst I don’t have an issue with this necessarily, it just feels very much like any other motivational/self help books and resources out there. I bought this thinking I would buy a copy for my Mum. However, now I don’t think I’ll bother. This would perhaps be a good “starter” book for somebody new to this genre. But I can’t say I agree that it will “change the way you think”. Side note- the book itself arrived with turned up pages on the front cover and is poor quality.

A book collection essential you’ll revisit again and again
Oh, what a joy. Love the short essay format. These bite size nuggets are like a therapist and best friend at your fingertips for whatever it is you need to deal with and move through. Brianna Wiest is the voice of a generation and one we all need on our bookshelves.

losse pagina's
Ik heb dit boek een half jaar ongeveer terug besteld en wou het nu gaan lezen, maar zie dat er bladzijden gewoon los in het boek zitten.

Thought-Provoking and Easy to Read
Pros Full of insightful ideas that encourage self-reflection and personal growth. The essay format makes it easy to read a little at a time. Covers a wide range of topics related to mindset, habits, emotions, and life decisions. Many chapters are short but leave a lasting impression. Great book to highlight, revisit, and reflect on over time. Written in a clear and accessible way. Although, Certain essays may resonate more than others depending on where you are in life. Overall I really enjoyed this book. It's the kind of book that makes you stop and think about your habits, beliefs, and the way you approach life. Since the essays are short, it's easy to pick up whenever you have a few minutes, and I found myself highlighting quite a few passages. A great read for anyone interested in personal development and self-reflection; I would most definitely read it again!

Very stylish!
Design is amazing, font is readable, and it's just perfect reading for short pauses because the essays aren't too long. The only thing missing for me is a hard cover, everything else is great.

Uno dei migliori libri di saggistica letti finora
“101 essays that will change the way you think” è una raccolta di scritti di Brianna Wiest, che all’epoca della pubblicazione aveva circa ventisei anni.
