Okay for a small amount of dishes.
The mat works pretty well for flatter items like utensils, plates, and pans. Depending on how many dishes you lay there, water will eventually seep through the mat to the counter below. This is a bit problematic for our granite tops. We have to occasionally wipe down the surface below and allow the mat to air dry, but we kind of know its limitations at this point. It really serves it purpose for dishes and utensils I have to reuse throughout the day such as cutting boards or utensils. If you are considering using it as the primary place to dry dishes, I wouldn't recommend it if you live in an area with high levels humidity. A good, old-fashioned drying rack will be much more practical and effective.Update: Since we live in a humid place, mold grew easily. It definitely seems like it dries thoroughly (though it takes a while) but I guess it stays moist enough to produce mold. I'm throwing it in the wash today. I'll let you know how this goes, but I still like the mat.Update #2: The mold washed out well. I cut down on the amount of wet dishes, and mold has not grown since then. There are some stains that have set in since we bought the cream-colored mat, but we still use the mat regularly for a small amount of dishes. It has been a worthwhile investment for us.

Handy
I hate having a dish rack take so much of my small kitchen's counter space. This mat is great for a few things that aren't going in the dishwasher. After I put dishes away, I can hang the loop on a sturdy fridge magnet and Bob's your uncle.

Wash at night, dishes still damp in the morning.
I have blender bottles and coffee mugs I clean every night. I bought this to let them dry for the morning. I often find the dishes still damp 8-10 hours later. I just don't see how I could be doing something wrong.I does seem to pick up grime from the area quickly and needs to be washed more often than I would have thought.I still use it, but its not all that and a bag of chips.

Won't Clean
The mat is great as a mat but it does not get clean when I follow the directions for washing it.

Liked enough to buy a second one.
My daughter-in-law got one of these a couple of years ago and we both really liked it so she gave me one for Christmas in 2010. (I don't like putting plastic or pans in the dishwasher so needed a place to stack them after washing as these don't fit well into a dish drainer.) I often have too many items to fit on one mat so purchased a second. My experience is that they hold water well and dry while laying on the counter. They clean and dry easily in the washer and dryer. The only drawback is that the plain beige color does show spots. But that's a minor issue to me.

Not satisfied with this dish drying mat. It's very thick and when saturated with water, takes FOREVER to dry. I gave it to the Goodwill.

Excellent
Good at absorbing water, I can usually stack a few pots, utensils etc against the wall over this and they'll be drained. Machine washable too (at least I've been washing mine with my towels in hot water for the past year without issue)./

Very absorbent drying mat for dishes
This dish drying mat works great because it is very absorbent. the moisture that gets on the mat doesn't go thru to the other side and they last for a very long time. The price is good to.
