Great for at home charging
I hid my boy's DS Lite. We were going on a trip I'm 2 weeks and we couldn't find it anywhere. Well knowing a 9 hour Pl NE trip plus hotel stay would be calmer with it I purchased a 3DS for him. My next 3 purchases was a multi charger to charge any type of DS (found Lite version a month after trip) a Nerf case and this USB cable. This USB cable allows me to let him keep all the bulky cables when he travels and all I need is this simple but great item. A++ in my opinion. I have used it regularly for over 6 months and the cable is strong and have no problems with it. I recommend it for everyone

You get what you pay for, no regrets
Cable works without issues, however this is the second time I've had to buy this cable. The previous one I used randomly stopped working after only a month of use. If you are looking for a way to charge your 3DS device at any USB port though I would still recommend this product, it's definitely worthwhile and isn't all that expensive anyways.

Works great and charges my 3DS and DSi just fine
Works great and charges my 3DS and DSi just fine! I've only tried it out in the usb port of my computer. My only real concern is that my DS is kind of warmer than usual while charging with this usb charger, but honestly, I have only tried this out with the USB port somewhat close to the vent on my laptop. Also, the charging process goes slightly slower, as all USB charges directly from PCs go.I haven't experienced any issues so far, and it is very nice to finally be able to charge up my DS systems without using up an outlet or 2 with its usual clunky charger.

USB Cable satisfactory
Note that Nintendo has decided to control sales of his products by making them region specific so it only sells chargers that work at the voltage in the country of sale. Buyers should beware of this practice since most other electronic equipment (iPhones, iPads, laptops) can work across a range of voltages. Thus it comes as a surprise to many when their American bought Nintendo charger won't work in Europe. If you are unaware of this it can result in a blown and functionless charger when a 110v unit is plugged in to a 240v outlet (many reports of this on the web). To cap it all the information on the charger is barely readable for most without a magnifying glass. So caveat emptor. Nintendo provides a great product in the 3DS but it could be damaged if you plug it into the wrong outlet and all because Nintendo wants to restrict sales of its products in the same way that DVDs are restricted by region. Moreover this is entirely unnecessary and a finger in the eye of the consumer. The Gator Crunch USB cable works with an iPhone adapter for charging. The iPhone adapter is rated at almost the same wattage (5V, 1A = 5 watts) as the 3DS charger (5V, 900 mA = 4.14 watts) so will not damage your 3DS. If you use another charger you should check the power output. It should not be much different from the Nintendo charger. For example the output of an iPad charger is 12.5 watts (5.2V, 2.4A), three times that of an iPhone charger

Charges as usual but plug is loose (see update)
While the cord does work to charge the 3DS XL, the USB plug is quite loose in my computer (see photo). Because of this, it tends to get unplugged without me even noticing which can be annoying.Update March 2016: The cord's coating has begun to pull away from the USB plug, leaving the wires exposed (see photo 2). With the issues I have had, I would not recommend this cord. I have recently purchased YUYIKES Charging Cable For Nintendo 3DS / 3DS XL / DSi / DSi XL and, while it is more expensive than this cord, it has a much higher build quality and works perfectly.

Doesn't charge the 3DS XL while the screen is on.
After multiple replacements, I can confirm that this does not work at all if the 3DS XL has its screen on. Using many different chargers, all with varying amperage, and voltage, I can confirm it is the cord. You can tell it doesn't output enough power either, because it takes like 9 hours for it to charge a 3DS XL to full, whereas the stock Nintendo one takes less than 2. This works in a pinch, but otherwise, I would much more highly recommend the stock 3DS charger.

This cable seems to work fine at first
This cable seems to work fine at first, but ultimately is not able to charge the 3DS while playing it. A friend of mine bought the same cable a while ago and his charges while playing it. But me and 2 others that just recently bought this cable noticed it wont charge the 3DS while playing it. I surmise they lowered the quality of the production of their cables, I do not recommend buying this.

Exactly what it says on the tin.
tl;dr. This gives you many charging options for your 3DS. It does not act as a data cable.----------This is a cable with a 3DS connector on one end, and a USB 2.0 connector on the other - that simple. It has a long, but thin cord. It charges on my PC, in my car device charging port, and with a smartphone AC adapter. I will always be able to charge my 3DS XL wherever I go.Please note that this is for charging only. This will not create a data connection between your 3DS/3DS XL/3DS LL and your computer or mobile device.
