The disparity is caused by the handles. The trays are very lightweight but strong and very nice looking. If you're looking for something to carry dishes that is cheap, looks pretty good and is virtually indestructible, this is for you. My wife and I have been pleased with ours. **Q: Can you serve food on this tray? A roast or chicken ?** A: Yes. It is designed to be a serving tray so you can serve anything you'd like on it. You might want to put aluminum foil under something like a roast or chicken just to protect the surface of the tray and I would not carve on it as a knife could scratch it.
