Moisture Meter
Shaping up to be a dry summer here in SE Ohio, watering the garden gets expensive as we're on "County" water. I've been gardening for over 50 years and just watered when I thought it looked like it needed it. Decided to try this. WOW!!! Instantaneous reading, This is actually a "battery" with a voltmeter attached. The copper and lead are in the probe and the soil moisture provides the electrolyte-SWEET!Started off in the house taking readings of some house plants. Some I thought looked like they could use water were at the 70% level, so maybe there's something to "worst enemy of plants is over watering." Went down to the garden which looked dry, took readings, varied from 50-70% so will wait another day. This meter paid for itself right there.....The scale in % probably isn't the most accurate, will have to learn what the different readings actually mean, e.g. 60%. First thing I did was immerse the probe in a glass of water and it read 80%, then watered a house plant really well, inserted the probe and it read 100%. Just have to learn what it's really telling me.Very pleased with this and heartily recomend.

Seller Worked with Me: Excellent Device
Originally, I had purchased this, but 2 months later it didn't work. When I contacted the seller he tried to help by asking me to take some steel wool to clean the soil end. That didn't work, so when I contacted them again, they shipped me a new one to replace the faulty one. I would buy from this company again b/c they are willing to take care of the buyer. The one I owned prior to this purchase lasted about 18 or so years. It's so valuable b/c I tend to over water my plants; the soil looks dry on the surface, but it actually is moist deep down. This meter helps you to keep an eye on when your plants really need watering.

Good, reliable product
I like the simple design of this product where it just plainly tells you "dry/moist/wet"; not sure if other similar devices get any more technical about their readings, but this is just fine for the casual indoor gardener and beyond. I am extremely plant-challenged, and am making a concerted effort to keep 5 newly purchased (low maintenance!) plants alive, especially in the winter and with constantly dry air in a New England home with heat going all the time, and I'm happy to say so far, so good. I make sure to wipe it after each use to ensure an accurate read.

Awesome!
Awesome! I thought it was not working, as it kept reading WET in my 12/ dozen houseplants...until I decided not water ANY of them for 10 days.Lo, three of them read DRY and the rest WET, so it DOES work, I was overwatering the others, even though I only watered 1x a week.Just jab it into soil and look at meter and, most importantly, trust what the meter says!Very few houseplants need watering even 1x a week. Most need water only every few weeks (more in winter, as the air is drier), but this meter has ended any confusion and my plants are grateful (and look better!).

Works well in loose soils, not so well in slightly compact soils
The meter worked as expected. However, improving the overall construction quality would make it a more versatile meter.I had used it fairly regularly for just under a year. I was testing the moisture level of some slightly compact soil. When I pulled it out of the dirt, the tip stayed in the soil, separating from the metal tube.If you are testing very loose soil it should work fine. I just don't believe the tip is crimped enough to use in even slightly compact soils.

Works great!
I bought this for the Plumeria I am trying to grow. I have never grown Plumeria but read I would need a moisture sensor so as not to create root rot. I read all the reviews & ordered it. It works perfect. Very easy to read. Just be sure to use the Brillo pad on the probe each time like has been suggested in the other reviews. I am so glad I bought it. My Plumeria is growing good so far. I recommend it for any plant really.

Good for general use. Clear the shaft after each use or else it'll likely corrode/oxidize.
Works as expected. But realize this is only for general use. If you want something more precise, look elsewhere. This is good enough to wet/dry at a certain depth. The probe is not all that durable so you'll want to be careful when inserting and removing them from the ground especially in a well rooted or rocky areas. Hold it by the shaft! Also, clean the shaft after each use or else it'll start to corrode.

Love it. I highly recommend them as they will ...
I bought two of these and just ordered 2 more. I bought the first ones to have a back-up for the one I've owned for years. My daughter ended up taking one of them for her plants and my old one finally gave out. Now my younger daughter is getting into plants and wants one. So, I am buying 2 more . One for her and one for a back-up. Love it. I highly recommend them as they will save you tons of money because you won't over or under water. Perfect for the winter time as you don't need to water as often and it will save your plants from drowning. Used to be able to find these in stores but no one has them anymore.
