Suspense And Mystery Behind A Relentless Quest For The Truth
When I started to read "Moments of Truth" I was immediately turned off by the story line. It was unexpected. It seemed to end the novel just as I had begun to read it. I thought: why read further? There is no mystery. The crime is solved. However, Lisa Scottoline is a skillful story-teller. She can hold your attention with the most mundane matter. The story starts with the startling confessions of an unusual client and develops into an interesting and intriguing plot replete with classic conflicts and unrelenting doubts on all sides. The story moves through multiple paths of suspense and intrigue. It arrives at a resolution that affirms a timeless adage: good will triumph over evil. Lisa Scottoline's powerful writing force draws her readers into the story as active participants in a quest for the truth. She shows that this quest can be messy and can contain unavoidable tragic consequences."Moments of Truth" is a book I could not stop reading once I got started. Every page evoked my curiosity and had me engaged in solving mysteries. I was just as anxious as Mary DiNunzio, the rookie homicide defense attorney, and the lead detective, Reginald Brinkley, to discover the truth behind a high profile murder. It was exciting reading it. There is not one dull page in this book.

Run Mary,Run Mary, Run!
Again with the disbelief that she can do it, she gets sucked in to defend a man confessed to murdering his wife, because she thinks his good looks must be because heโs INNOCENT.

Paige or Trevor or Jack????
Another suspenseful book by Lisa Scottoline! With just enough legal jargon to make the novel educational and believable, Moment of Truth captured my interest within the first few pages. While the reader is led to believe that Jack Newlin confessed to a murder he didn't commit, as the story unravels, you find yourself beginning to doubt his innocence. Did he or didn't he? Or was it his daughter Paige? Was Trevor, her boyfriend involved? It's obvious that the two young people are selfish and ill-mannered, but does that make them murderers? And then there's Mary, the lawyer. Will her emotions cloud her judgment and prevent her from doing her job? Is Jack taking advantage of her attraction for him? There are heart-stopping scenes when you (the reader) fear for someone's life. There are also heart-warming ones that take place in the DiNunzio kitchen that make you realize that despite the evil in the world, somewhere there is love and goodness. While everything comes out "okay" in the end, there are some harrowing, suspenseful moments and surprises leading up to it.

Romance novel level story and writing
Many people judge readers of detective novels not "serious" readers. At least half of my reading is detective novels and I defend my choice by saying that I read novels that are well written, by talented writers who can keep the reader in suspense but are written in such a way that the reader feels and sees as if s/he were participating in the story. You can see the characters clearly and yet are constantly surprised at the turn of events. This is not the case with "Moment of Truth". The writing is clunky and I immediately felt as if I was reading a cheap romance novel. The story focuses on the lawyer Mary, who we are constantly reminded is a Italian Catholic with old fashioned parents. The parts of the story where there is interaction with Mary and her parents is embarrassing in its depiction of Italians. Then there is the crush that Mary immediately has on her client. It comes out of nowhere and felt artificial. Finally, there are twists in the story as there must be in a detective novel. However, none of these twists are really surprising and also felt artificial and contrived. I just never cared about any of the characters or what happened to them - probably because I didn't "know" them.

Read by Barbara Rosenblat
This was a very good story and it was made more enjoyable by the reader. The story is about a women who is murdered and found by her husband arriving late for a dinner with her and their emancipated daughter who is going to tell her she is pregnant. The women is despicable her. The hubby thinks the daughter did it. He's a lawyer and he hires a green lawyer to the field to represent him when he confesses. The lawyer figures out he is lying. The D.A. wants to go for the death penalty and make an example out of him. A good twist and a very good read by Rosenblat.

This is a real page turner
This is my first time to read Lisa Scottoline and it definitely will not be my last. Here is a fine writer who knows how to keep the reader on the tip of the page and the edge of the chair. And what a plot!!Every time things seemed to be moving in one direction, Scottoline turned them sharply in another direction, over and over. That is in my opinion what makes a good mystery thriller. The characters are well developed and even the bad guys well defined. It is not my policy to tell what the book is about. That keeps the reader from the fun of uncovering and enjoying for him/herself the joy of a well structured and enjoyable book. Read it and get ready to hold your breath. Highly recommended.

Here we go again....
I enjoy watching the characters of the Rosato lawyers develop over the series. Glad Lou is back. Hoping Brinkley and Kodach (sp?) return. I did miss Maryโs twin sister when she visits family. This story has several twists and turns. However, maybe one too many. Looking forward to book 6.
