Warrior Lockdown Leg Pads

These leg pads do a good job of protecting my son's thighs and pelvis from lacrosse balls hurled recklessly at his poor body. They are great, but I have had to attempt to sew and duct-tape the elastic waist-band to the rest of the garment as the seam between them is so tenuous that it rips, even on the first wearing.So: it is great to have this equipment to help my son feel more protected and confident in the goal, and I wish that connecting seam was more durable.

Not much inner thigh protection, exposure on hips. The size is smaller than you would expect. Not very good. Alternatives?
