In a word, quality. Soft, generously thick enough to be worn alone but not too heavy, great construction-well made.
You can't go wrong with this midweight wool top from Woolx. In a few words, VERY soft, ample (generous) thickness without being too heavy, well made with attention to detail, and they stand by their product. I am now am lucky enough to own items from Patagonia, Smartwool, and Minus33, and so I know the other options out there very well. Below I'll explain more, but in brief, their midweight shirts have a few key features I feel distinguish them from the competition. One is that they have nice wide cuffs on the sleeve, where the fabric is doubly thick, protecting an area that can quickly wear down, a feature that costs more in manufacturing but benefits the consumer. I feel this is very important when you're spending more to have a quality item. Woolx doesn't seem to skip on features like this, the stitching is obviously well reinforced and holding up well, the fabric is soft and yet a goodly weight. My mother was a seamstress, so I'm a careful and well informed consumer when it comes to construction. I may have splurged, but I have a small budget and my clothes need to really last and be worth being more expensive, both in functionality and durability. I haven't found loose threads untrimmed etc. and other carelessness that I've found in even more costly brands, which really says to me they take more care. Also unlike some brands, my Woolx midweight shirts are thick enough to wear by themselves without embarrassment but not too heavy- they are the sweet spot between a lightweight running or liner shirt and a heavyweight shirt, just as a midweight should be. I really feel this is a quality product. I'm not someone who usually spends a lot on clothes and I initially was quite reluctant to buy wool items because they are (in my opinion) quite expensive. However, I wasted a lot of money on thermals and warm shirts (and pants) of all types in an effort to be warm enough and comfortable. I bought several items to try even at steep discounts, but in the end, I'd have saved money if I'd just known about wool and had faith in it being the best solution. When I did take the plunge, it was reassuring to buy on Amazon because I at least knew I could return anything that wouldn't work as I simply couldn't afford to keep anything that didn't. I'd rather have one Woolx midweight shirt than two of another brand simply because of the durability and careful construction, I guess I just have faith in their products and I've been pleasantly surprised at their quality. Also, for anyone it may help, I have issues with being cold (poor thermoregulation as ISO caused by arthritis, neuropathy, poor circulation etc) and thermals didn't help much until I bit the bullet and went with real wool. I had read that in other countries keeping arthritis and/or pain affected areas warm is seen as a way to help the body cope and even fight inflammation & heal and I was tired of hurting and being so cold all the time. Or worse I'd be cold, get too warm from thermals, sweat and then freeze! Wool generally won't make you hot, it keeps your temperature steady, thermoregulating for you. Wool has really helped me in general, and has even helped me have less issues with pain and Reynauds disease, though they aren't on my hands or feet (makes sense tho keeps arms and legs warm to prevent attacks). For me, the shirts I got allowed me to wear my regular clothes again (using this shirt as a base layer), and I'm finally warm and comfortable in nice soft shirts. No, not a magic bullet for pain, but I do feel I also have less pain and feel better wearing wool stuff in general.

Beautiful fit!
I received this top (Women's Explorer Midweight Top/Hannah Top) for Christmas, as well as the Women's Midweight Avery Leggings. My husband bought me the set for our Feb trip to Paris. I had researched A LOT of wool baselayer brands, and was surprised to get this brand as I honestly had never heard of WoolX! I am 5'7", 38D and about 160lbs. The Hannah top in XL fits beautifully! I thought my husband was crazy for buying this size, as I am a large almost always. The sleeves sit nicely at my wrists, plenty long with a nice 3-4" band to keep in snug. The length is also wonderfully long enough--it hits about low hip, and finally, the bust fits snuggly but not tightly while the torso area is not skin tight. Basically it's suitable to wear alone or under clothes. I feel great when I'm it because of the perfect fit! I washed the set and dried it just a bit in the dryer (which helped remove any wrinkles) and they finished drying quickly.I haven't worn them yet but I love the thin fabric! It is a wee bit itchy, but ok.Not long after his purchase, my husband received an email from Melissa at Hank's Clothing the seller, to follow up and find out how the purchase worked. She also let us know that if we needed to return/exchange, they would be happy to send us a label and return it free of charge instead of going thru Amazon where you would have to and pay a fee!I'm totally happy with the top and bottom! I hope other reviewers will find my input helpful.

new favorite shirt, winter game-changer
I can't say enough how much I love this shirt! It is warm, comfortable, not too tight or at all itchy. The sleeves are long enough so you can cover your wrists to stay warmer, or they can be cuffed and still look nice. You can push them up your arms and they are stretchy enough to stay up, but don't get bagged out at the cuffs. The body of the shirt is also a little long so it doesn't leave gaps, and can be worn tucked into pants or worn un-tucked.At first I was hesitant to spend the money on this item, since it runs higher than a lot of my clothes ( although reasonably affordable compared to many other merino wool items). The quality and utility really make it worth the money. I have worn this almost every day since receiving it a few months ago. I wear it hiking, for casual wear, and to work. Its great for layering under regular clothes because its not bulky, I wear a scrub suit to work with this under it and its just what I need in a chilly workplace. I have been opting to rinse it in Woolite and hang dry, rather than machine wash and dry like the label suggests, because I want it to last longer. It drys overnight on a hanger. I don't have to wash it every day because it never gets stinky. This would be a great item to wear camping or traveling. Its been so freezing cold this winter in New England, and having this shirt makes me happy!

Comfortable!
Finally! Sleeves long enough for my monkey arms. I always have a problem with sleeve length but this shirt fits me like it does on the model. I don't think I've ever been this excited about a shirt. Incredibly happy with the fit. I ordered the small in midnight teal. (I'm 5'9", 125# and small chested.) Gorgeous color and a great fit. Not too snug, not too baggy. Definitely room for a tank/cami layer underneath. This shirt should work perfectly on my trip to eastern Europe this November. I like to travel light and this shirt works for multiple outfits......dressy enough for a nicer occasion but warm enough for a hike.

Highly recommended
5'9" 170 lbs. Absolutely love this shirt. The sleeves are long enough (mid-hand, half way between wrist and knuckles-similar to what is seen on model) that I can actually fold the cuff back! Typically being tall, sleeves are usually annoyingly too short. Soft and snugly to the touch. The color is a deep, rich forest green. I've washed it in preparation to wearing it. It's still in the 70's where I live but I think this will be a favorite once the weather turns colder in the next month or so. If this shirt wears as well as I expect, I'll most definitely invest in more items from this company.
