Basic Black Leather Checkbook Cover

After looking for a simple leather cover for weeks on Amazon and other sites, I made a mistake by ignoring the reviews and took a chance on this cover. I ordered 3 black covers and am sending them all back. I don't intend to bash the cover or the manufacturer, as it has potential if they would just fix the things that many folks are complaining about on here. First, the photo on Amazon is not what arrived in my box. The photo shows a simple cover with no inserts or anything else. What I got has a bunch of credit card holders, zippers, etc. that I, as a dude, do not need. My credit cards go in my wallet, and my checkbooks sit on my desks. Second, when you fold the cover, the ends do not line up with each other. Third, as the reviews state, the plastic for duplicate checks is smaller than even the cheap vinyl covers from the bank. It does not cover up the date line and only part of the amount line. Fourth, as the other reviews stated, you almost need a crow bar to get the actual check book to fit in the cover. Took me 5-10 minutes and I started to trim the cardboard, but eventually jammed it in there. Finally, it does have square corners - not rounded. Not a big deal, but confirms that the photo on Amazon is not what is being sold.

I bought the black checkbook which was "sold by Allset products and fulfilled by Amazon". The leather quality is not impressive but completely adequate and looks nice. I'd be surprised if someone had difficulty fitting their checks in here since the opening for the check book is 6 5/8 inches , while my checks are only 6 wide. The leather book is 7 inches wide. It has a plastic insert for duplicate checks and it is positioned correctly.As I write this (Amazon likes to change up descriptions and suppliers) the photos in the product description show pockets for credit cards and even a zippered pocked on some of the colored versions. My black book does not have any of that. Only pockets for the checkbook, register and one other pocket under the checks that could be used for a credit card if it weren't so deep.Very pleased with it. Wish I could get this design in other colors too.-- Edit --I subsequently purchased the Brown version and it _is_ a completely different book. The leather is so thin that it has a hole in it. It has 7 slots for credit cards and a zippered pouch. The thickness of the zipper prevents the book from closing and if you force it, it does not close evenly. ( this is with nothing but the checkbook in it) The plastic duplicate protector does not cover the right side of the check, just as others have described. If this were in a store where people could handle it, no one would buy it.

Good quality, real leather. Great for my needs. I don't keep a check register, just the carbon copies, so it works perfectly for me. Nice leather, looks like it will hold up. Fits into my back pocket so I can close the button, which I can't do with larger covers. So why only four stars? There are two flaws. It should be a sixteenth to an eighth of an inch wider (a millimeter or three) because the cardboard check backing won't easily slip into the slot to hold the checks and the carbons in place. You have to kind of cram it in there, bending the backing. You can trim the edges of the backing, though, and it goes right in. That's what I do. Also, if you use a check register, it won't close properly, as it is just too small for that. But if you don't use a check register, or maybe if you don't use carbon checks, and if you don't mind trimming or cramming the check backing, then this is a great check cover.

I was looking for a simple checkbook cover--not fancy, just something that holds my (infrequently used) checkbook. This *would* have fulfilled my needs, EXCEPT that neither the checkbook nor the check register would fit into it. It was simply a hair too small--which rendered it useless unless you are willing to fiddle and fuss. As a stopgap, I ended up trimming the backing on the checkbook and the cover of the register so that they fit in, but I don't see myself doing so for each checkbook.

A piece of garbage. The stitching tore when I tried to insert a standard personal check book, which was a very tight fit. The book bent I figured oh well and it tore when I inserted the register, a little more malleable as opposed to the check book. The photo shows a rounded corner, but the one I received is square cornered. No big thing, but it makes me wonder, is what is presented is what is provided? I have carried a leather cover for years. The last one I purchased at a local swap meet about 15 years ago. Lasted for ever until and I would still have it until I lost it. I'll give it 5 stars for leather and appearance, and 0 for durability. I lost $10 on a piece of garbage and will go back to the swap meet.

Very nice. Checks fit in tight, but thats ok. I have the single checks, bound at the top, and use the register that slides into the other side. Theres no tab to hold the register page like the cheap vinyl, but thats minor to me. The cover would appear to me to be able to last a long time. Will probably last forever for me, but your mileage may vary.

Soft leather and good stitching. Not at all like what is pictured for the black checkbook cover here. Pointed corners rather than the rounded show here. Has pockets for credit cards and a zipper for inside storage. Check and register fit right in but since the cover has more bulk than expected (due to the zipper storage area and credit card slots), it does not have enough room in the middle for it to close fully. Maybe with were it will fit better and close completely. For the price it is acceptable.

There isn't much to say about a checkbook cover other than it's damn cool. It has a nice feel to it, and the leather looks great. As a young guy it makes me look pretty professional pulling this bad boy out when that rare event that I'm actually writing a check
