Big sound...small package
Great small format monitors.....absolutely perfect for the desktop. I tend to use these at lower volumes and I'm extremely pleased with the level of detail I get at such low spl figures. The little mid-woofer does an admirable job with the low frequencies. Seems to me it digs lower than the advertised 49 Hz. I also use the Dynaudio volume controller too...a nice accessory. They're easy to break down and pack up for road trips....had to buy a Focal CMS 65 travel bag for toting (why Dynaudio doesn't make one is beyond me). The bag holds the monitors and their included isoacoustic stands perfectly. Bought these through Proaudiostar (they are authorized Dynaudio dealers and sell here on Amazon too).** Jan 2016 update **Running these side by side with a pair of JBL LSR305 monitors. Pretty comparable with respect to the 2-way design, driver size, and freq response. Not so comparable with respect to price though....LSR305's much cheaper. While I still say the LSR's are an absolute deal when you consider the price/perf issue, but there's no question the Dyns are the better monitor. After listening for quite a while now the higher noise floor of the JBLs is a definite drawback. The compacts--in comparison--have virtually no noise and listening at low volumes REALLY makes this evident. At louder volumes the difference isn't so drastic, but I'm not inclined to work at those levels. The Dyns seriously shine...probably the best monitor purchase I've ever made.** Dec 2016 update **The Dyns have opened up nicely...they truly sound marvelous. Really a lot of great sound from such a small package. Decided to kick this up a notch to a 2.1 system. Found a good deal online for the BM9S II subwoofer which is actually meant to pair with these compacts or their larger siblings the BM5 MkIII series. The compacts do go quite low for their size, but it should be an overall benefit to let the sub handle everything below 80Hz...should let the compacts comfortably crank above that. More to come later....
