Agnes Pelton: Desert Transcendentalist Hardcover – March 21, 2019

This is an extremely well produced, bound and printed book with first class illustrations in large format.The articles outlining Pelton's life, milieu, ideas and painting technique are also excellent. Pelton's slow approach to painting, with use of stippling and many coats of glazing, is well captured in the illustrations. She stands at the opposite end of abstract impressionists' athletic immediacy of expression, and it is wonderful to read of a life devoid of macho posturing, ego inflation or drunken excess. Her paintings start from humility, then expand to the vastness of desert horizons and beyond. I am very grateful to the editors, curators and writers who have given Agnes Pelton the profile she deserves.

Agnes Pelton is a fabulous artist that I didn't know too much about, but saw her work at an exhibit. This book is an illuminating look at her life and how she lived in relative obscurity. It's very high quality with lots of images, making this a great book to display.

I was floored by the craftsmanship that went into this book. Designed in Germany, printed and bound in Italy, and it sure shows. So many full-bleed (full page) images, and the color reproduction and detail is astonishing. Honestly a book like this should cost twice as much based on the workmanship that went into it. As to the contents of the book, also superb. What an amazing forgotten painter Agnes Pelton was! No longer forgotten! The writing is excellent too. Really a great book at an excellent price. True QUALITY.

im so glad agnes pelton is finally getting the recognition she deserves. shes an amazing, creative, and astounding artist. this artbook gives a summary of her life and experiences, and a full coverage of her amazing work.

I was lucky to catch the Pelton exhibit at the Palm Springs Art Museum. I was blown away by her beautiful artistic gifts. Some of her work is a bit like Georgia O'Keefe, but even more impressive. Her desert landscapes are equally compelling. One can only hope that with time, Agnes Pelton's art will get the recognition and respect it truly deserves.

An incredibly beautiful book about a forgotten artist who fortunately has been recently rediscovered.

Arrived so quickly-made my day. AHHHH what a work of art, both published book and the greatest artist I never heard about! Agnes Pelton is the master of her own creations. She is like no one else. She created art that changed my life. Thanks also to ARTFORM that introduced her in their last issue and blew me away into finding this book. And thanks to ARTSY.com for introducing the idea that: one work of art could change one's life. Such a work of art is "Winter" by Agnes Pelton painted 1933 (page 115) A master up there with Georgia O'Keefe also painting in the desert.

Everyone is familiar WITH Georgia Okeeffe 's abstracted works in the deserts of New Mexico. Now be prepared to being absolutely transcendent with Agnes Pelton's work in the desert between Arizona and L.A. If you've driven that stretch of freeway of I-10 you'll know how the desert affected others, from Desert Center with it's truncated palms in circles, all those mutant saguaros in Quartzite (Color out of Space?) and Dinosaur Land in Cabazon and who's to say what is lurking in Cathedral City. But something wondrous, or something beyond our comprehension certainly took place in Agnes Pelton's soul. Just looking at her work does something to yours looking at this book. Imagine living there when the place was new. Yes, I would love to paint there a few days some spring. If you can't view at Phoenix Art Museium (like I did)) or MOMA, get this book!

This was a sought after book and was super pleased to see a used copy available on Amazon. It's in excellent condition and arrived quickly, even though it was coming from across the border.Thank you, love it to bits

Gorgeous book and artist! I’m so happy I finally have this book. It’s big and full of information about Agnes’ life. Her paintings are incredible and this book is a treasure.
